It’s March and the Madness is upon us. College Basketball takes center stage as 64 teams play for the right to be named NCAA National Champion. The first and second round of the tournament are this weekend and we broke down two best bets by the numbers.

IOWA (22-11) vs CINCINNATI (28-6)

16:15 - Friday 22nd, Mar 2019

Cincinnati rolls into the NCAA Tournament with a ton of momentum sporting a 28-6 record in the American Athletic Conference. While Houston won the regular season conference championship in the AAC , Cincinnati for the second year in a row managed to win the AAC conference tournament championship. On the other hand, Iowa was the definition of average this season in the Big Ten Conference. There 10-10 conference record left much to be desired this year, beating up the bottom dwellers in the Big Ten and standing no chance against the class of the conference. Let’s break this matchup down by the numbers.

At the end of the day this game will be determined by a couple factors. #1) You can’t make careless mistakes and turn the ball over. Not beating yourself is huge in the tournament and while Iowa has struggled in that department… Cincinnati has not. #2) Defense travels everywhere. Cincinnati is notorious for playing incredible defense and this year is nothing different. Not only do they have the 12th best scoring defense in the country, there Field Goal % Defense is also top 30 in the nation. Iowa struggles significantly when trying to stop 2pt field goals. They are ranked 238th at 2pt field goal defense and that is just not good enough. Add the fact that Cincinnati is such a better offensive rebounding team and everything combined is a recipe for success. Cincinnati gets the job done on Friday.
THE PICK: Cincinnati -3 at 10/11 (1.90)

IONA (17-15) vs NORTH CAROLINA (27-6)

01:20 - Saturday 23rd, Mar 2019

This game is a joke. Unfortunately high seeds in the first round are VERY lopsided games that aren’t very competitive at all. In my opinion, North Carolina is the best team in the country. They are my pick to win the national championship. Iona won there conference tournament in the MAAC with a record that was two games over .500… it’s ok, you can laugh. Let’s break it down by the numbers.

North Carolina will be able to pick the score they want at the end of the game, that is how big the disparity is. North Carolina is better, offensively, defensively, they have a huge rebounding edge, and better shooters. They have an excellent mix of senior veterans that have been here before and stud freshman who carried the team all year. Coby White, Cam Johnson , Luke Maye and Nassir Little are on a mission this year and the bottom line is Iona doesn’t have the horses to run in this race. North Carolina by 30+.
THE PICK: North Carolina -22 at 10/11 (1.90).
