Ed Hawkins (@cricketbetting) says there could be chaos when Sri Lanka and West Indies clash on Monday

Sri Lanka vs West Indies

10:30 AM - Monday 1st, July 2019

After the competitive and blockbuster nature of matches over the weekend, this is a return to earth in terms of temperature of betting heats. A chaotic Sri Lanka team against an ill-disciplined West Indies isn’t going to excite.

It could prove to be best for traders. There would be nothing surprising in the least about these two taking it in turns to be favourites because of an inability to maintain a level of performance. There is nothing wrong with laying the jolly in-running in the first innings and expecting plenty of flip flops.

Sri Lanka reverted to type with an awful effort against South Africa last time out. It wasn’t a contest after the first ten overs or so of their first dig. One wonders whether England were watching and thinking ‘how the hell did we put our tournament in jeopardy by losing to this rabble?’

The Windies might think they have been unlucky. Against Australia and New Zealand they had the games in their pockets only to be let down by some less-than-smart thinking. They failed to defend 320 against Bangladesh and then got nowhere near a fair chase of 268 against India. It’s a CV which is full of calamity.

For those reasons there are going to be few takers of 1/2 (1.5) West Indies. This could be one of the worst prices of the tournament. Sri Lanka are a gamble admittedly at 7/4 (2.75) with Bet365 and William Hill but there seems little option considering there’s no evidence the Windies are such a price.

For top bat bets, we’re beginning to lose faith in Shai Hope and the 3/1 (4.0) with Coral and William Hill doesn’t excite much. Still, on pure value data he should be shorter at more like 2/1 so by the letter of the law we should put emotion to one side and go in one more time. Sunil Ambris is a threat at 9/2 (4.5). He has two wins in seven but is one for the future when we have a bigger study period to work with.

For Sri Lanka, there is gambler’s value in the lower-order blasters. Thisara Perera and Isuru Udana are 12/1 (13.0) and 33/1 (34.0) respectively with Ladbrokes.

Best Tips for the Match

Back Sri Lanka 7/34 Bet365, William Hill

Back Shai Hope top WI bat 3/1 Coral and William Hill
