What are the hot tips and best match bets for the South Group contest in the T20 tournament?

Essex Eagles vs Middlesex

Wednesday 14 August 2019 at Bristol

Middlesex are sitting pretty in their quest for qualification from South Group for the knockouts. Essex are wallowing in an ugly position and only one of these is going to threaten a title surge.

The Lord’s based county have won six of their nine matches to sit in second posi-tion. Essex, one of the weakest squads around, are down among the dead men with two wins. It is true they have lost two matches to rain but they’re a soggy outfit who are unlikely to have done much with them.

Still, form could be irrelevant. Particularly for Middlesex. They have lost their talisman, AB De Villiers, who arranged a rest period into his contract. He will return for the final two matches of the group stage and the knockouts. Afghan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahmann could also be absent having been recalled by his board.

AB is Middlesex’s second-highest runscorer with a barely believable strike rate of 191. Mujeeb is their most economical bowler. These are big gaps to fill. Eoin Morgan, the England World Cup-winning captain, is some player to have in the middle order, however.

Considering AB’s numbers, there is no adequate replacement so pity poor Mohammad Hafeez, who jets in from the Canada T20. There is nothing that AB can do with the bat that Ha-feez can replicate. But his spin could prove useful.

Essex will look to Cameron Delport and Mohammad Amir to bridge the gap. Delport, alt-hough striking at 180, has been a little hit and miss. Amir has only two wickets from four matches. Essex needs more from both.

Unibet make Middlesex 1.7 (7/10) favourites with Essex best at 2.25 (5/4) with Betfair, Coral, Ladbrokes, and Paddy Power.

Dawid Malan, unfortunate not to be playing for England, could be a solid top-bat bet for Middlesex. He’s in great nick having slayed Gloucestershire and from his opening berth he could do some serious damage on what is an excellent Chelmsford wicket. He is 3.75 (11/4) with Betfair.

Best Bet

Back Dawid Malan top Middlesex runscorer 3.75 Betfair
