What are the hot tips and best bets for the T20 clash as the series gets underway?

India vs Bangladesh First Twenty20

Sunday 3 November, Feroz Shah Kotla

A few days ago this local affair promised plenty of spice and intrigue. Now on the eve of this three-game series, starting at the crazy Kotla, not so much.

Bangladesh need all the help they can get to stand toe to toe with their super-power neighbours so the loss of Shakib-al-Hasan is a significant blow. Their best player and probably the finest one-day all-rounder in the world - has been banned for two years by the ICC after failing to report three approaches from match-fixers. It is a move that has stunned the world.

There’s more bad news. Tamim Iqbal, their firestarter at the top of the order, is absent and it’s fair to claim that Bangladesh, who have been training with face masks because of the pollution, could struggle to come up for air in the three games.

Not surprisingly, Bangladesh are whopping outsiders with India no better than 1.13 (1/8) with Bet365. That’s actually rather generous with the firm shorter than most. The Banglas are 7.0 (6/1) with Betfred and Ladbrokes.

As luck would have it, India have perhaps taken pity on the long-suffering arm-chair fan who has grown weary of one-sided contests (we’re still trying to get over the procession that was Australia-Sri Lanka) by leaving out skipper Virat Kohli. The great man could do with a rest.

In his place, Rohit Sharma will lead. There will be a rush to bet him for top India bat at 2.63 (13/8) with Unibet. It’s not value in terms of two-year data but that data includes a 33.3 percent win rate for Kohli. Rohit has a 26.4 percent win rate.

There is a clearer edge for top Bangladesh bat in the form of Mahmudallah. The solid hitter has an 18 percent win rate in the last 12 months. Not great shakes but bear in mind that Tamim was winning 33 percent of the time and Shakib leaves a huge whole. The 7.0 (6/1) that Ladbrokes offer has great appeal.

Best Bet

Back Mahmudullah top Bangladesh runscorer 7.0 - Ladbrokes
