Royal Challengers Bangalore v Rajasthan Royals
Chinnaswamy International Stadium, Tuesday 30 April, 15.30

Do or die time for these two sides, although in truth their play-off chances are slim. Rajasthan must win both remaining matches and even then that might be enough. Bangalore need two wins by monstrous margins. And almost certainly that won’t be enough.

The issue punters have to wrestle with here is the strong chance that the Royal Challengers are more than aware that their season is over. It could be the sort of meek performance which characterised their early efforts.

Moreover, they are not at full-strength. Moeen Ali, who was good at No 4, is with England. Marcus Stoinis, who it was hoped would propel Bangalore to high run rates, has not had the desired impact bar one innings.

They did manage a win against a listless Mumbai Indians last time out, though. But it was hardly confidence-inspiring for bettors. The old problems of being hopeless in the field under pressure surfaced again when Hardik Pandya’s blitz set hearts in mouths.

Rajasthan have revamped their entire team. Bizarrely, they have been better for it. Without Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes they have found confidence. Buttler missed both of their back-to-back wins and the other two one match.

It is tempting to reckon they are the value here, then. Bangalore are odds-on and our golden rule is to take them on when they are so short. Royals are best at 6/5 with Betfair.

There are some big-priced top-bat wagers that we feel we should point out. For Rajasthan, Riyan Parag looks a real player. He has adapted effortlessly to the IPL pressure and his clean striking has been a major boost in a poor campaign. Betfair and Paddy Power go 13/1 (14.0) that he top scores. For Bangalore Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers take up a big chunk of the book at 9/4 (Ladbrokes, Coral) and 11/4 (Bet365, Betfair, Paddy Power, William Hill) respectively. This means Heinrich Klaasen might be overpriced at 7s (8.0) with Ladbrokes and Coral. Shivam Dube, another big hitter, likewise at 12/1 (13.0) with Bet365, Betfair and Paddy Power.

Best tips for the match

Back Rajasthan Royals 6/5 at Betfair
