Ed Hawkins (@cricketbetting) says David Warner might not be missed too much as they look to close a play-off berth

Mumbai Indians v Sunrisers Hyderabad, Wankhede International Stadium

Thursday 2 May, 15.30

Sunrisers Hyderabad got their play-off race back on track last time out with a strong showing against Kings XI Punjab. But this is a stern test against one of the historic powerhouses.

And the Sunrisers could be forgiven for feeling a little unsure. Everything they have come to love and trust about their season so far has just been whipped away from under their noses. They have lost the top runscorer in the tournament – David Warner – and his partner in crime at the top of the order, Jonny Bairstow. Both are preparing for World Cup duty with Australia and England respectively. Warner has 692 runs so far and it is testament to his hitting that the top tourney bat race is over. He’s basically won it with a potential three games fewer than anyone else. It’s sad to see him go because we made a mint betting him for top Sunrisers bat in individual innings. Sunrisers have just lost their one area where they have shown consistent strength.

His replacement could be Martin Guptill, the World Cup top runscorer of four years ago. The Kiwi is an ace hitter but there are significant doubts as to whether his game is suited to the surfaces in India. Guptill is a bit of a flat-track bully and needs it coming on nice and true.

Instead, Sunrisers may opt to bring on Billy Stanlake as the overseas option. Their bowling has been well below par and it always makes sense to strengthen that department instead of the bat.

Manish Pandey, in terrific form, could well be promoted to open. So the 9/2 (5.5) that William Hill, Betfair and Paddy Power is a value shout. For the record, Guptill is 10/3 (4.33) with Bet365 and William Hill).

Mumbai are tough crowd to call. They have been woeful in two of their last three outings, losing to Kolkata and Rajasthan. The 4/6 (1.67) that Hills offer is no fun at all. Sunrisers are 13/10 (2.3) with Bet365 and could be worth a nibble. If they win here they will essentially eliminate Kings XI because of the run rate differential.

Best tips for the match

Manis Pandey top Sunrisers bat 9/2 William Hill, Betfair, Paddy Power
