Ed Hawkins (@cricketbetting) says punters need to start deciphering new squads now World Cup calls have hit

Rajasthan Royals v Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sawai Mansingh Stadium

Saturday 26 April, 15.30

World Cup call-ups are beginning to hit IPL 2019 teams and all that we thought to be true over the last month or so could be proven to be false in the next few days as squads and XIs change the nature of a team’s character. Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad have been badly affected by England calling their players home earlier than every other nation. Out have gone Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer. As we have said before this is the spine of their team and it leaves them holes which they just can’t fill with similar quality – or anywhere near similar.

Sunrisers have lost only Jonny Bairstow and although it’s only one player, his partnership with David Warner in the opening berth was all that was good about Sunrisers’ batting show in this tournament.

Still, it’s not surprising that the bookmakers have taken a view on the weakening of the Royals squad. Sunrisers are best at 8/11 (1.73) with Paddy Power. Royals are out at 13/10 with William Hill.

It could be considered tempting to get with the Royals considering they have rejuvenated their campaign with two big wins over Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders in their last three. But we reiterate: it’s not the same XI.

Liam Livingstone, Ashton Turner, Ish Sodhi and Oshane Thomas will battle for the three available overseas slots. It’s bargain-basement stuff. It means that Stuart Binny, admirable trier though he is, could be batting as high as No 65 if Sodhi plays.

Sunrisers are up and down following a heavy defeat by Chennai Super Kings last time. They are boosted here by the return of skipper Kane Williamson and he is set to open with Warner in place of Bairstow.

The 4/1 (5.0) that Betfair offer about him top-scoring is big for an opener. He is as short as 5/2 (3.5) elsewhere. It’s not pure value in terms of how often he cops but that’s okay because Warner is. The 2/1 (3.0) across the board is still value as we have him down as a 6/4 (2.5) chance.

Best tips for the match

David Warner top Sunrisers bat 2/1 Bet365, Betfred, Betfair, Paddy Power, William Hill
