Ed Hawkins (@cricketbetting) says Saturday’s IPL 2019 double header provides in-play and top-bat intrigue

Delhi Capitals v Rajasthan Royals

Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium
Saturday 4 May, 11.30

Amazingly, Royals are still in with a chance of making the play-offs. But it’s a convoluted equation. Naturally, they must beat the Capitals then hope Sunrisers Hyderabad lose to Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders, victors over Kings XI on Friday, lose their final outing. The odds are against them.

Even more so when you consider that Steve Smith, who took over captaincy duties from Ajinkya Rahane, will miss the clash. He has begun preparations for Australia’s World Cup campaign. This completed Rajasthan’s extraordinary player drain – Smith, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer have all departed. Delhi looked jaded in defeat by Chennai Super Kings last time and the market had minimal faith in them in a moderate chase, despite going at ten an over with one wicket down for the first four. They were still outsiders in-running.

Hills go 4/6 (1.67) and that’s way too short about the hosts. Better to keep your powder dry for this one and look for closer to even money in-running on Delhi.

Royal Challengers Bangalore v Sunrisers Hyderabad

MA Chinnaswamy Stadium
Saturday 4 May 15.30

Sunrisers Hyderabad are playing knockout cricket. The pre-tournament favourites have performed well below expectations this season and it is barely believable that they must win their last match to ensure qualification. Luckily they play the chaotic Royal Challengers Bangalore, who avoided another defeat thanks to the rain in their outing against Rajasthan Royals. In a reduced-over contest their bowlers were once again being sent round the park before Mother Nature took pity.

That gives us an edge, of sorts, on a very good batting wicket. Martin Guptill, the Kiwi blaster, has taken over as blitzer-in-chief from David Warner and he should find conditions to his liking. Ordinarily we’re a little worried about Guptill’s ability to adapt to varied pitches but this should be a road.

Betting him for top-bat honours at 10/3 (4.33) with Bet365 makes sense here. Sure, we had a big win on Manish Pandey here against Mumbai but this should be Guptill’s time.

Finally, we absolutely cannot have Bangalore as odds-on jollies and Bet365 have to be punished (again) for even money (2.0) Sunrisers. It’s a solid price.

Best tips for the match:
Sunrisers to win Evs Bet365
Martin Guptill top Sunrisers bat 10/3 Bet365
