World Cup favourites England have named Jofra Archer, Tom Curran and Liam Dawson in their 15-man squad for the eagerly anticipated summer tournament.

The selectors announced a provisional 15-man World Cup squad featuring Alex Hales, David Willey and Joe Denly last month. Archer and Curran were added to a 17-man group and given the opportunity to muscle their way into the final 15 during a five-match series against Pakistan. They both enjoyed strong series as England romped to a 4-0 victory and they have made the cut, with David Willey and Joe Denly suffering the heartbreak of missing out. Hales was axed from the squad for failing a second recreational drug test, and Hampshire slow left-armer Dawson got the final nod.

Some pundits thought all-rounder Denly would make the squad ahead of Dawson, but the selectors have gone with the spinner, who did not feature in the Pakistan series. The pace attack will feature Archer, Curran, Tom Curran, Liam Plunkett, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood. Barbados-born quick Archer became eligible for England on March 17 after completing newly implemented residency criteria, and brings a real X-factor to England’s bowling department thanks to his rapid deliveries.

Captain Eoin Morgan, Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Jason Roy and all-rounder Ben Stokes complete a formidable England squad. They are the host nation and they are 2/1 favourites with Bet365 to secure a first ever World Cup triumph. India are 11/4 second favourites and Australia, who recently welcomed Steve Smith and David Warner back to the squad, are priced at 4/1.
