Lancashire Lightning vs Yorkshire Vikings

Friday 9 August 2019 at Old Trafford Stadium

Lancashire are sitting pretty for Vitality Blast glory and a sixth win of the campaign will put them close to an unassailable position for knockout qualification. They may need only one more win in the group section to book a quarter-final place.

Against their rivals Yorkshire they will be confident. Earlier in the campaign Lancashire beat Yorkshire by nine runs at Headingley to underscore their promise. That day Dane Vilas, the captain, and pacer Saqib Mahmood were the stars. Each game a new player seems to put his hand up to get them over the line.

Matt Parkinson, the spinner, was one of the main reasons we recommended a bet on the Red Rose to bloom in this competition. So far he is taking a wicket every nine balls. That’s an insane strike rate. Liam Livingstone, Glenn Maxwell and Richard Gleeson have all been excellent when required.

Yorkshire are having a poor time. They have won win in five and are already an unsettled unit. Nic Pooran, the West Indies blaster, has left for international commitments. They have also struggled in the bowling department.

Josh Poysden, Matthew Fisher and James Logan are out injured while captain Steve Paterson has been leaving himself out with confidence in the white ball dropping. Adil Rashid is a major doubt with a shoulder problem.

BetVictor and William Hill go 1.67 (4/6) then about the hosts and if you’ve got deep pockets there are worse wagers. Still, we’re after bigger numbers than that and, as usual, we turn to the top batsman market. Lancashire’s Livingstone has been underrated slightly and we’re happy to get with him at 4.0 (3/1) with Ladbrokes.

We’ll also take a chance on Parkinson for top Lancashire bowler at 3.6 (13/5) with Unibet. Parkinson should get plenty of grip and bite from an Old Trafford surface which looks likely to assist him all summer.

Last time out against Nottinghamshire Outlaws the wicket looked devilishly slow – making big hitting tough – and Parkinson should be able to make hay.

Best Bets

Back Liam Livingstone top Lancs bat 4.0 Ladbrokes

Back Matt Parkinson top Lancs bowler 3.6 Unibet
