What are the hot tips and best match bets for the South Group contest in the T20 tournament?

Somerset vs Glamorgan

Saturday 24 August 2019 at Taunton

Somerset had high hopes of launching an assault on the Blast title this season but it hasn’t worked out that way. They find themselves in a real battle to qualify for the knockouts with five wins from their nine matches before their crucial derby clash with rivals Gloucestershire on Thursday night.

They will be grateful, then, that bottom-of-the-table Glamorgan are their visitors. The Welsh county have not managed a win in seven attempts. The best they have done is a tie followed by four washouts.

Not surprisingly, the layers reckon this is a mismatch. Somerset are no better than 1.53 (8/15) with Bet365. That is one of the shortest prices of the whole season. Glamorgan are 2.5 (6/4) across the board.

There is unlikely to be anywhere for Glamorgan to hide. There is no toss bias (a straight fifty-fifty between batting first and second) and the wicket should be like a road. As you would expect, the Glamorgan bowling has struggled to keep things tight in the field.

Babar Azam, the Pakistan blitzer in the opening berth, will be many punters’ idea of a bet at 3.0 (2/1) for top Somerset bat. Alas, we can’t get involved. We have him winning 30 percent of the time and the bookies at 33. Babar is one of the most reliable top-bat bets in T20 but the price has to be right. If we don’t want to miss out on him, Betfair go 1.83 (5/6) that he busts 29.5 runs. He has an average run haul per match of 35 so there’s a chunk in our favour.

Tom Banton, an England player of the future, catches the eye at 4.33 (10/3) with Bet365 and William Hill on the top Somerset bat market, too.

For top Glamorgan bat, there’s a percentage edge of 0.2 in our favour if we were to bet Aussie Shaun Marsh. He gets a 4.2 (16/5) quote from Betfair. But given that the firm also offers Fakhar Zaman at jolly status it might be worth taking the plunge. Fakhar is not available so be quick.

Best Bet

Back Babar Zaman over 29.5 runs 1.83 Betfair

Back Shaun Marsh top Glamorgan bat 4.2 Betfair
