What are the hot tips and best match bets for the South Group contest in the T20 tournament?

Somerset vs Kent Spitfires

Saturday 10 August 2019 at Taunton

After winning their first five matches Kent Spitfires looked the team to beat in this year’s Vitality Blast. But they have been more like the Kent Misfires recently with two defeats coming in their last three.

This has set up an intriguing contest against Somerset, who have suddenly found form.

Two of their three wins have come in the last three. They beat Surrey by a nar-row margin and then walloped Essex by a massive 111 runs after posting 225. Somerset are a dangerous team with momentum, particularly with the bat.

It’s a wonder as to what will have worried Kent more. Defeat by Gloucestershire or Sussex. Against Gloucester their batting flopped horribly as they managed only 125 against a bowling unit who, on their day, can be one of the meanest and smartest around. Against Sussex they were simply blown away, going down by nine wickets against a powerful south coast outfit. Have they been found out?

So our job is to work out whether this is a mere bump in the road or something more serious. We’re leaning to wards the latter after perusing the odds. Somerset are rated as skinny fa-vourites at 1.73 (8/11) with Betway, Coral and Ladbrokes. Kent are sticking out like a sore thumb at 2.2 (6/5) with William Hill. It looks an enticing price particularly because Kent dished out a lesson to Somerset in their previous meeting.

The danger for Kent will be if Somerset bat first on a flat Taunton wicket. Without their bowling at its absolute best they could be facing a target of 180 or more. Babar Azam, the Pa-kistan blaster, is a significant threat. Babar is 3.5 (5/2) with Unibet for top bat honours for the hosts. He has 323 runs at 53 so far.

For Kent, Daniel Bell-Drummond has been in great touch and at 4.5 (7/2) Ladbrokes are out of line with the rest. Heino Kuhn also has a good hit rate on 2018 form to be worth consider-ing at 5.0 (4/1) across the board.

Best Bet

Back Kent at 2.2 William Hill
