What are the hot tips and best match bets for the South Group clash in the T20 tournament?

Sussex Sharks vs Hampshire

Wednesday 24 July 2019 at Hove

Sussex share jolly status for the Vitality Blast and they have a chance to put a marker down against their south-coast rivals. It’s a meet which, painfully, is billed as the El Clasicoast. The two should have met already but their clash earlier in the tournament was washed out because of heavy rain. Happily, the weather forecast is good for Thurs-day so there should be a full match.

Before the damp squib in Southampton, we were keen on Sussex showing why they are so highly rated. And we won’t dilly-dally about backing them again. The bookmakers are struggling to split the pair. We’re not.

Ladbrokes and Coral go 1.91 (10/11) about Sussex and that’s a very good price considering the teams’ contrasting fortunes. Last season Sussex were bang in the race for the title, losing out in the semi-finals to eventual winners Worcester-shire. Hampshire had a stinker of a campaign, winning just two matches.

Until Hampshire can consistently prove that such shoddy performances are behind them, we have to take them on at short odds. There is, of course, a lot to like about some of their individuals – James Vince, Chris Morris, Kyle Abbott – but they have failed to put together decent preparations and plans.

Sussex, despite being shorn of the service of Jofra Archer, remains a balanced, competitive unit. They have all bases covered it seems with Luke Wright and Laurie Evans – last year’s top scorer – providing the fast starts and Phil Salt middle-order nous. With the ball, Reece Topley, Tymal Mills, and David Wiese are excellent pace options.

The x-factor is Rashid Khan, the best T20 spinner in the world. It is probable that he will make all the difference in a keenly contested affair. As we said previously, it’s worth betting him for the man of the match award because, statistically, we know he should be shorter. Unibet go as big as 11.0 (10/1). Consider that Bet365 offers 7.0 (6/1) and it’s a price we will have to be fast for.

Best Bet

Back Rashid Khan man of the match 11.0 Unibet
