The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is now back home from Singapore for the highly anticipated UFC 244. Madison Square Garden will play host to 12 action-packed MMA contests including Heavyweight prospect Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik

UFC Heavyweight prospect ‘Jairzinho Rozenstruik’ is no stranger to combat sports. At the age of 18, Rozenstruik has been competing in Muay- Thai, Kickboxing and Thai-box contests until eventually making his debut in mixed martial arts. This week’s spotlight will shine on the former multiple kickboxing champion and current UFC heavyweight challenger, Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

Hailing from the beautiful country of Suriname in South America, Rozenstruik started his first martial art aged eighteen. Eventually being discovered by a highly-rated local coach (Michael Babb), he would evolve his skill level whilst being trained under Babb. After his debut fight and loss, he would soon turn things around with his first knockout victory then earning himself the nickname ‘Bigi Boy’.

Continuing his training and professional career, Rozenstruik ended up an 8-time champion with over 80 fights on his record, 52 of those bouts ending in a knockout win for Bigi Boy.

A successful Muay Thai career led Rozenstruik into MMA fulltime and since 2017 he’s accumulated an impressive 6-fight win streak with 5 of those contests ending by knockout or technical knockout.

Rozenstruik poses a serious threat in the UFC Heavyweight division. With a lengthy striking career supplying him with all the experience needed to compete amongst a high level of athletes, I have no doubt that Rozenstruik can continue to make some serious statements inside a UFC octagon.

Rozenstruik vs Arlovski Fight Talk

A clear disadvantage for Rozenstruik will be his takedown/grappling defence. Junior Albini didn’t struggle to shoot in for a takedown and successfully land. That said, he still ended up on his back, looking up at the bright lights after Rozenstruik returned to his feet and finished the fight by TKO. Allen Crowder wasn’t so lucky; he found no success in his bout against Rozenstruik after falling victim to a 9 second knockout in the first round.

The UFC might be onto something here, the recent influx of fighters being signed in the Heavyweight division gives us hope for a division that is lacking talent. Rozenstruik is an elite striker with the power to finish anybody inside the distance, imagine the future matchups we could see… vs, Greg Hardy, Ngannou or even Ciryl Gane.

The game-plan for Rozenstruik is an obvious one, even for a low-level analyst like me. Stand and bang! His bread and butter will forever be his striking which also gives him more time in the gym to practise his grappling offence and defence. Training in America will certainly help him gain that extra knowledge needed that he may not have found at his previous gyms.

Andre Arlovski is a UFC legend and has watched fighters come and go like yoyos. He’s fought the most elite fighters on the planet with a professional MMA career spanning 20 years. This April 2019 marked the 20th anniversary for Arlovski’s career which must be breaking records as we speak.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/IpitphDIT0Q\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen></iframe>"}[/]

The Outcome

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out how this fight will end 9 times out of 10. A 30-year-old ever-improving knockout artist is taking on a 40-year-old veteran who is closing near to the end of his fighting career.

A knockout should be inevitable if Arlovski hangs around on the feet, the question is… can he land the takedown on Rozenstruik? I’m going to go with, probably not. Rozenstruik is a huge and Arlovski isn’t the biggest Heavyweight so, even if landing a successful takedown I don’t think he’ll be able to hold Rozenstruik on the ground.

When Arlovski can’t control Rozenstruik he will be left with no other option than to engage in a striking battle with the former Thai box and Muay Thai world champion. This outcome isn’t

going to fare well for the legend. He will be totally outclassed on the feet and don’t be surprised if this one ends within the first five minutes.

UFC 244: Masvidal vs Diaz will be on Saturday the 2nd November live from Madison Square Garden in New York.

UFC 244 Prediction: 1.5u on Jairzinho Rozenstruik @ [1.67] [-149] with Coral
