UFC 237 returns to Brazil this weekend for another action-packed fight card providing a great main event between Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade. With the Female Strawweight title on the line and a card jam-packed with legends… It’s set out to be one entertaining show. Let's take a closer look at this week's notable underdogs.

The Dog's Odds

Kurt Holobaugh (2.20 – 6/5 @ Bet365) vs. Thiago Moises (1.70 – 7/10 @ Bet365)

In a fight that should be way closer to a pick em than the opening odds suggest, Kurt Holobaugh is coming in at a great price here. He has the size and experience advantage first of all, and other than Thiago fighting in his home country, I can’t figure out why the line is sat so juicy for Kurt.

The fight is scheduled for a 155-pound fight in the Lightweight division, both fighters have fought in the Featherweight division but Kurt is certainly boasting the bigger frame and should have no trouble’s taking the fight where he pleases. At 5’9, I predict we’ll see Thiago struggle with striking and also struggle initiating any type of grappling fight, Kurt will dictate where the fight ends up and given that huge factor, he might even be able to get the finish.

The only path to potential victory for Thiago here would be by submission, so long as Kurt can avoid the takedown, I’m happy to side with the underdog here because the size advantage just seems too good to ignore on a price were being given.

With 5.12 significant strikes landed per minute versus Thiago and his 2.27 strikes landed per minute, it’s clear Kurt excels here. Kurt struggled with the takedown against Barcelos, but Thiago doesn’t implement the same wrestling technique like Barcelos so I’m thinking this fight could stay standing, which won’t end well for Moises.

Jared Cannonier (1.63 –63/100 @ Bet365) vs. Anderson Silva (2.30 – 13/10 @ Bet365)

In the Middleweight division, we are gifted with an absolute treat! The man, the myth, the legend… Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva. Former UFC Champion and Brazilian Hero step’s back on home soil to defend his country’s honour versus a less than capable opponent in my opinion.

Call me biased, I don’t care. I will fanboy the f*** out when Anderson walk’s through that curtain into the arena on Saturday night in Rio De Janeiro and considering Jared’s more than average career performance, we might see a beautiful leg kick or knee finish like all times from The Spider. Anderson was able to hurt Daniel Cormier even though coming up short, and his battle with current Interim Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya wasn’t an easy one for the champ.

Let’s not forget, Anderson is 44 years of age. To still be able to hang with 2019’s top fighters is an accomplishment in itself, now facing someone who is slightly lower ranked than his previous opponents… Anderson has a legit chance to win. I can’t deny Jared did look good in his previous fight versus David Branch, but the level of competition is just non-comparable up against Anderson’s resume.

Anderson’s kicks and angles could be key here, this fight should stay on the feet and unless Jared could land a lucky K.O (which only one person has managed to do) there’s no way he is going to outpoint Anderson on the scorecards.

Turning the heat up in the fight even more for me are the underdog odds available, Jared isn’t smart enough to hang with Anderson… I think Silva can grab an easy decision victory or potentially even a knockout.

Anderson is 9-1 in Brazil

Anderson has the advantage in all striking statistics

Anderson has 22 wins by knockout

Anderson has the advantage in all grappling statistics

UFC 237 will take place this Saturday night 11th May live from Rio De Janeiro in Brazil.

If you would like to check up on any underdogs or odds not mentioned in this article then click HERE.

For some of the best odds available at UFC 237 check out William Hill.
