I cannot contain my excitement, the fanboy in me is screaming for this event, are you ready for UFC 239?

Luke Rockhold vs Jan Blachowicz

UFC 239 takes place on Saturday 6th July at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas.

Mr. Hollywood himself ‘Luke Rockhold’ steps up a weight class and puts himself in the Light Heavyweight division. For all the slack Rockhold takes from the public, it’s easy to forget how talented this man is. I try not to mix personal opinions when handicapping a fight and I see people fade Rockhold based on his personality alone, which in all honesty… goes against everything a sports handicapper should stand for.

With a 16-4 professional record, Luke Rockhold is the former UFC Middleweight champion and has defeated some of the divisions best to offer. He excels in every aspect of mixed martial arts and other than a questionable chin, I can’t find fault in Rockhold’s skill set. An unfortunate KO loss against Michael Bisping knocked Rockhold back a peg or two and since that fight he hasn’t been the same cocky, egotistical and arrogant fighter people love to hate…Well, I think that stop’s on Saturday night and we’ll see a version of him that is stronger, faster and more comfortable in his body when he fights at his natural weight of 205 pounds.

Jan is no slouch, but he is also no Rockhold. I appreciate opinions and respect what the MMA community has to offer when making judgements on fighters and their upcoming bouts but I

struggle to see why so many people are against Rockhold here. His life outside the octogen aside, the man has had 3 losses in the UFC with all of them against former or future champions/contenders. Jan, on the other hand, lost to Patrick Cummings. Yes, I understand that fighters evolve and learn from their mistakes but let's are honest, Jan is no spring chicken at the age of 36 and hasn’t really evolved since his losses. I’d say he’s been matched up stylistically and gained success against competition that suits his style of fighting.

I love Rockhold to get back on track this weekend and believe me when I say this, Rockhold is the only fighter in that division that could give Jon Jones a run for his money. This will sound absurd to Rockhold haters but I’m not a hater, I’m a money maker. So… the 1st leg of this week’s punching parlay will be Luke Rockhold.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Luke Rockhold returns to the Octagon at #UFC239...

He has scary power in those kicks 🤢 pic.twitter.com/rbNcABLtK3
— Watch UFC 239 live on BT Sport Box Office (@btsportufc) 28 de junho de 2019
\n"}[/]

Ben Askren vs Jorge Masvidal

UFC 239 takes place on Saturday 6th July at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas.

One of the best wrestlers in the Welterweight goes up against one of the most polished technical strikers when former wrestling champion ‘Ben Askren’ takes on Jorge Masvidal.

I love Jorge, who doesn’t? But just like I mentioned previously, opinions on persona don’t mean jack in this business and we are here to make money. If you think Jorge can handle the wrestling Askren will put on him then that’s fair enough, but personally I think he stands no chance in a 3-round fight against the best wrestler he’s ever faced. Jorge has held it down in the defensive wrestling department but as soon as he goes up against the elite, it all goes downhill. A 41-year-old Damien Maia was able to take Jorge down at will before he tired, now he has to face a wrestling champion who is well known for his amazing talent. Some may say one dimensional, and that’s a fair point… but that’s all you need when facing a fighter who is also one dimensional in the opposite skill set.

They say, “every fight starts standing” and that’s a good point to make when Jorge is such a talented striker but every fight also ends up on the ground when Ben Askren is fighting. In the history of the UFC, wrestlers have always fared well against strikers as it’s easier to control the ground game than it is to land a KO punch and I just don’t think Jorge has the power to accomplish that.

Let’s take a look at Jorge’s history, he may have knocked an overconfident Darren Till out but across his record, you would suggest that he is a decision fighter. He holds technique over power and volume over aggression which are the opposite of what he needs to defeat Ben in a three-round fight.

I expect what Ben has told us in interviews, he’s going to wrestle Jorge and make it a long night for him. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw another crazy submission from Ben either, he has that core wrestling strength which can’t be taught overnight.

The second leg of this weeks ‘punching parlay’ will be Ben Askren, it will also be the most entertaining build up and pre-fight press conference we will see. Ben has a personality that will give him a career after fighting and has created himself a fan base that loves what he does inside and outside the octogen.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Ben Askren and Jorge Masvidal do NOT like each other.

Trash talk. Holly Holm is a great technical striker and she will forever be remembered in women's MMA but she’s about to step in the octogen with the most dominant female in the history of mixed martial arts.

Sara McMann by submission, Current UFC Flyweight champion by decision (TWICE!!), Miesha Tate by submission, Ronda Rousey by TKO, Raquel Pennington by TKO and last but certainly not least… Cris Cyborg by KO, who was undefeated since 2005 with one loss on her record at the time of defeat. What is this list, Dave? fans will know, but for the newcomers to the sport, this list shows the most popular and talented female fighters the UFC has to offer all suffering a loss against Amanda Nunes. My good friend and partner in MMA analysis ‘Jay Paglia’ will have a great breakdown on this fight so I don’t need to elaborate that much, just take our word for it and go check out his extensive article on this championship fight.

Amanda Nunes wins by devastating KO/TKO or Holly Holm runs away for five rounds and still losses by decision anyway.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

🏆 Bantamweight Champ
🏆 Featherweight Champ

Amanda Nunes sealed her legacy with victory over Cris Cyborg at UFC 232 to become the Queen of both women's divisions.

The GOAT 🐐#UFC239 pic.twitter.com/Z4ZO752J61
— Watch UFC 239 live on BT Sport Box Office (@btsportufc) 2 de julho de 2019
\n\n"}[/]

Punching Parlay Wrap Up

- Luke Rockhold at [1.59] [59/100] [-169]

- Ben Askren at [1.42] [4/11] [-238]

- Amanda Nunes at [1.29] [2/7] [-350]

Parlay/Accumulator Odds: [2.91] [15/8] [+191] with Unibet

Stake: £100 / 1u

Returns: £288

Profit: £188

Current Parlay Bank: -4.25 Units/-4.25u

The Weekly Punching Parlay Season 2 Record: 1-5

Season One

Record: 10-0

End of Season 1 Profit: (£1154, 10.1 Units of Profit)

Starting Stake: £100 (1 Unit)

UFC 239 takes place on Saturday 6th July at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas.

Available on ESPN,UFC Fight Pass, BT Sports & PPV for the main card.

The Weekly Punching Parlay is documented and trackable through our fighting section on the Odds Market website.

Follow DaveBets on Twitter HERE.
