Another week, another winner for the ‘Squared Up’ series! Let's keep it going at UFC: 239.

We have now cashed on 8 of our last 10 fights in the 'Squared Up' series and this looks to be another exciting tip for our cards. The UFC comes back home this Saturday night to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada for UFC: 239. Dana White has FINALLY given us a fight card worthy of PPV. In fact, this is probably the best card in the last six months by an objectionable standard. Two title fights headline the stacked card, first in the main event, Light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones takes on Thiago Santos in what is sure to be delightfully violent. The second fight, and the basis of this articles is the co-main event between the current Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes against challenger Holly Holm. Both fights should be very entertaining and more importantly profitable for us this weekend. Lets get it!

HOLLY HOLM (12-4) vs AMANDA NUNES (17-4)

03:00 - Sunday 7th, Jul 2019

Holly Holm:

Holly ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ Holm, steps into the Octagon Saturday night as the #2 ranked bantamweight contender in the world. Holm came up under Mike Winkeljohn as a Kickboxer. She quickly moved disciplines and became a boxing contender at welterweight. In June 2008 Holly Holm became the undisputed welterweight champion of the world at multiple weight classes when she won a unanimous decision by then champ Mary Jo Sanders. She would go on throughout her boxing career to win the IBA and WBAN welterweight titles. She finished her boxing career with a (33-2-3) record and it was then, she turned her sights on the world of mixed martial arts. She fought on the regional scene before landing a Legacy Fighting Championship where she would go 3-0. The UFC finally took notice and signed Holm to a 5 fight deal. It was her 3rd fight in the UFC that would change the course of the promotion’s history, when she defeated then phenom Ronda Rousey to win the UFC Bantamweight championship. Since that fight, Holm has lost her title and has only won 2 of her last 6 fights. She needs a win badly against Nunes, will she get it? Below is a look at Holly Holm by the numbers.

STATS:

PROS:

• Striking (Holly is a former welterweight boxing champion….. should I go on?)

• Footwork (Her movement is fluid. Like most well rounded boxers in the UFC, she cuts the angle very well. Her lateral movement around the cage in general is great. Her Issue Saturday is this, can she move between the bullets that this machine will throw for 25 minutes?)

• Fight IQ (If you count her entire fighting career in every discipline, she has fought 76 times. She has seen it all and done it all, because of this she is an incredibly intelligent fighter.)

CONS:

• Power (As good a striker as Holly Holm is, and she is great, she has shown zero power in her hands. Her one shining moment in the UFC was the Ronda Rousey KO and that came from a leg kick. Nunes will not fear her power at all and that is a big problem for Holly.)

• Ground Game (She doesn’t have one, it’s nonexistent. If Nunes take Holm down at all, Holly will be like a fish out of water, flopping around on her back. Thus the reason why she has no submission victories in the UFC)

Amanda Nunes:

Amanda Nunes comes into Saturday the current UFC champion in both the Bantamweight and Featherweight divisions. Her last fight, against a fighter that was widely recognized as the best

female MMA fighter of all time; Chris Cyborg, took all of 51 seconds for Nunes to shock the world. It didn’t start this way for Amanda Nunes, she fought for low level promotions early on and amassed a 5-1 record. It was then that Strikeforce MMA took notice and in January 2011 she made her debut against Julia Budd, where she won by knockout. After Strikeforce, she had a quick stop at Invicta FC and finally after years of hard work she got the callup to the big show. She debuted for the promotion at UFC: 163 versus Sheila Gaff where again she would win by TKO. (Do you see a pattern forming yet?) In her 11 fights in the UFC, she is 10-1, her only loss coming by TKO to Cat Zingano at UFC: 178. She won the Bantamweight Championship from Miesha Tate at UFC: 200, and the Featherweight championship from Cris Cyborg at UFC: 232. Can she defend her championship for the 4th consecutive time this Saturday at UFC: 239? Below is a look at Amanda Nunes, by the numbers.

STATS:

PROS:

• Power (It is absolutely devastating power for a female fighter. She can probably knockout half the male roster. It is a beautiful storm of violence.)

• Striking Accuracy (For a female fighter, her accuracy is incredible. She is a sniper and it bares out in the numbers. Almost 5 significant strikes landed per minute is phenomenal, and her strikes land with the utmost consequence.)

• Strength ( She is HUGE for the division. With power, comes strength.)

CONS:

Ummmmmm….. (What CON can you really say about a fighter that has won 10 of 11 fights in the UFC, destroyed Ronda Rousey, has defended the belt 3 times already, is a 2 division champion, and just knocked out the most feared women’s MMA fighter of the last decade in 51 seconds????? When you figure that out, you let me know.)

THE VERDICT

This fight comes down to one thing, will Amanda Nunes beat herself on Saturday night? Holly Holm is a great MMA fighter. She is a top 5 women’s MMA fighter on the UFC roster today. She is an excellent striker, her fluidity and movement in the cage might be the best on the female roster. BUT that only gets you so far when you are fighting the female version of Francis Ngannou. Holly doesn’t have the power to scare Amanda Nunes. Cris Cyborg didn’t have the power to scare Nunes and keep her from moving forward, and that is terrifying. The only thing Holly can do is jump around the cage like a gazelle for 5 rounds in hopes that she out points Nunes for a decision, while trying not to get her head knocked into the 4th row.

Do I think she can do that? NO I DON’T. The only person that can beat Nunes in that cage is her. The argument is, Amanda Nunes is fat and happy right now coming off the Cyborg knockout. Maybe Holly can catch her sleeping and snuff her out. That argument ordinarily would be a legitimate argument, but not Saturday.

Amanda Nunes is now chasing immortality. She is currently the greatest female MMA fighter to ever live, full stop. All she can do now, is add on to the mystique, build her legacy and forever carve herself into the Mount Rushmore of women’s MMA forever.

That is exactly what she will do Saturday night.

PREDICTION

Amanda Nunes by TKO at 37/25 (2.48) 1u
