Another Ultimate Fighting Championship weekend is upon us which can only mean one thing; betting predictions and fight tips from the underdogs featured on the UFC Melbourne event, “it’s time”!

The Dogs Odds

Luke Jumeau vs Dhiego Lima

Welterweight Bout
UFC 243 takes place on Saturday 5th October live from The Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia
Betting Prediction/Tip: Luke Jumeau to win @ 2.33 for 0.5u with William Hill

Luke Jumeau

Age: 31
Record: 13-4-0
Height: 5ft 11”
Reach: 72”
Current Streak: 1 win
Gym: Core MMA
Notable Gym Members: N/A

Significant Strikes

Landed Per Min: 3.38
Accuracy: 49%
Defence: 54%

Grappling

Takedown Average: 0.33
Takedown Accuracy: 100%
Takedown Defended: 91%

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/L3tjNNsLMmw\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen></iframe>"}[/]

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) travels to Melbourne Australia this weekend; kicking off the second main-card fight will be Luke Jumeau and Dhiego Lima.

Luke has been side-lined for the past 18 months which might usually be a concern but, Lima is not a guy I’m going to be betting whilst he’s coming in as the favourite. Other than a two-fight win-streak I’m not happy with Lima as a -160 favourite.

Luke should be the pressure fighter like he is in almost all of his fights, I expect a walk-down approach from the New Zealand native. Coming from a boxing background, Luke has also achieved a tae-kwon do black belt and a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He possesses a core strength with some heavy hands and when fighting close to home, is currently undefeated (5-1-0).

Dhiego Lima

Age: 30
Record: 14-7-0
Height: 6ft 2”
Reach: 74”
Current Streak: 2 wins
Gym: American Top Team
Notable Gym Members: Anthony Martin, Todd Duffee.

Significant Strikes

Landed Per Min: 3.02
Accuracy: 43%
Defence: 60%

Grappling

Takedown Average: 1.57
Takedown Accuracy: 50%
Takedown Defended: 66%

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tip of the cap to Dhiego Lima and Gilbert Smith for an epic battle in the <a href=\"https://twitter.com/hashtag/TUFRedemption?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TUFRedemption</a> quarterfinals! After a bad run under the UFC banner in 2015, Lima was dropped by the UFC. Nearly three years later, Lima was to compete on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ for the second time in his career and once again reached the final. A loss in the ultimate finale still earnt him a UFC contract and the Brazilian is currently holding a 3-5 record.

Lima began training in mixed martial arts so has an all-round fight game. He should be looking to stay on the outside and implement his counter striking, I wouldn’t be surprised for him to attempt some takedown’s if finding no success on the feet.

At the end of the day

Dhiego Lima should be fighting off his back-foot for the entire 15 minutes. I can’t envision Luke backing down at any point, forward pressure and heavy striking should put Lima in some sticky predicaments. Lima loves to leave his chin out If Luke lands a clean shot it could be lights out for an unpredictable fighter that Lima.

The value for me lays with the physically stronger underdog who is fighting with the home town feeling. Lima has shown some impressive spells as of late, but I think an aggressive Luke Jumeau can either point fight his way to victory or sneak in a cheeky knockout/TKO.

The first betting for UFC 234 will be an underdog play on Luke Jumeau.

Some statistics below you may find interesting

Lima is 3-5 in the UFC
Luke Jumeau has gone the distance in all 3 UFC bouts
Jumeau has 5 wins by KO

Jamie Mullarkey vs Brad ‘Quake’ Riddell

Lightweight Bout
UFC 243 takes place on Saturday 5th October live from The Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia
Betting Prediction/Tip: Jamie Mullarkey to win @ 2.40 for 0.5u with William Hill

Jamie Mullarkey

Age: 25
Record: 12-2-0
Height: 5ft 8”
Reach: 71”
Current Streak: 4 wins
Gym: Central Coast MMA
Notable Gym Members: Ross Pearson

Significant Strikes

Landed Per Min: N/A
Accuracy: N/A
Defence: N/A

Grappling

Takedown Average: N/A
Takedown Accuracy: N/A
Takedown Defended: N/A

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/V0Yx7o5V87o\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen></iframe>"}[/]

The Australian Lightweight Jamie Mullarkey will be making his UFC debut in his home country and should be more than confident in himself coming up against another debuting fighter who has a considerably less amount of experience.

Jamie has found himself on a four-fight win streak during his recent stint in the Australian regional scene. He’s held championship titles in 3 different organisations and finished his previous four opponents by TKO.

Brad Riddell

Age: 28
Record: 14-7-0
Height: 5ft 10”
Reach: 71”
Current Streak: 3 wins
Gym: City Kickboxing
Notable Gym Members: Israel Adesanya, Alexander Volkanovski, Dan Hooker

Significant Strikes

Landed Per Min: N/A
Accuracy: N/A
Defence: N/A

Grappling

Takedown Average: N/A
Takedown Accuracy: N/A
Takedown Defended: N/A

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/DotfKz4IRQA\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen></iframe>"}[/]

Brad Riddell will fight in one of many trans-Tasman clashes at UFC 243; hunting for a knockout win similar in what his teammate ‘Alexander Volkanovski’ achieved on the regional scene against Jamie in 2016.

The hype surrounding Riddell comes from his professional kickboxing background and the gym he coaches for and trains out of (City Kickboxing). He does have some impressive fights prior to his seven MMA fights but it’s a struggle to find a decent amount of MMA fight tape on Riddell.

At the end of the day

I’m not riding the same hype-train that’s following Brad Riddell much like a large percentage of the MMA betting community. Making a UFC fight prediction can be tough on debuting fighters but Jamie’s come up on the regional has impressed me enough to see value in the current underdog odds available.

Jamie is riding a four-fight win streak and one of those wins came up against Adel Bites who notably, defeated Riddell by TKO. I’m not a believer in MMA Math but I can see Jamie being able to capitalise on the grappling in this fight, he has the grappling to fall back on if he finds little success exchanging blows with Riddell.

The final dog for this weeks ‘dogs and their odds’ will be Jamie Mullarkey.

Some statistics below you may find interesting

Jamie Mullarkey is undefeated at 155lbs
Riddell is a striking coach at City Kickboxing
Both fighters are making their UFC debut

UFC 234 takes place on Saturday 5th October live from The Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.

If you would like to check up on any underdogs or odds not mentioned in this article then click HERE.
