Nice work on UFC underdog predictions last week, can we replicate our success with UFC Fight Night 156?

Polyana Viana vs Veronica Macedo

UFC on Fight Night 156 takes place on Saturday 10th August live from the Antel Arena in Uruguay

Betting Tip: Veronica Macedo @ 2.20 with Coral

An almost identical situation to last week’s ‘Dogs and Their Odds’ prediction, we have two females going head to head with a betting line that makes no sense.

Both Flyweights are coming in on losing streaks with nothing to get excited about in their UFC highlight reels. I do think Polyana can produce more output when striking on the feet and given she has the size and reach advantage I don’t expect her to struggle with landing punches but Macedo mixes her punches and kicks more fluently than Polyana and has the advantage on the ground.

Macedo is a brown-belt in Ju-Jitsu and Karate, she holds a black belt in taekwondo which gives me no doubt she would be superior if grappling exchanges are made. Macedo has shown me a lot more than Polyana has shown me in her wins, I think Macedo might be able to grapple with Polyana and grind herself to a decision victory.

Polyana is rather one dimensional, her betting line opened up at 1.55 -182… I’m not sure what the bookmaker was smoking but please kids, don’t do drugs. These types of lines are evident that oddsmakers still haven’t caught up with the times and struggle with MMA odds from time to time. This is a straight-up ‘dog or passes’ fight, I’ll take a half unit on the dog all day long.

Some statistics below you may find interesting

· Polyana makes her Flyweight debut

· Macedo is 0-3 in the UFC

· Polyana has never been stopped inside the distance

Prediction: Veronica Macedo to win @ [2.20] [6/5] [+120] with Coral

Rogerio Bontorin vs Raulian Paiva

UFC on Fight Night 156 takes place on Saturday 10th August live from the Antel Arena in Uruguay

Betting Tip: Rogerio Bontorin @ 1.91 with William Hill

It’s been a rough week whilst searching for viable plays to place in the ‘Dogs and Their Odds’ article. With a lot of close lines and well-matched fights, I think Bontorin is the next best thing to an underdog without jeopardising your bankroll. The bookmaker is respecting both fighters here as they identically priced.

We have a striker versus grappler matchup in the Flyweight division when UFC new blood battle it out on the preliminary card. Bontorin will look to take this one to the ground and believe me… if he gets it down, it will be an early night for Paiva. Paiva should look to keep this fight standing and out strike Bontorin which is easier said than done.

Bontorin boasts a 15-0 record currently riding a five-fight win streak and undefeated at 125 pounds, Paiva is a threat whilst striking from the outside but I can’t see Bontorin taking a knockout blow which I believe Paiva will need to win this fight. 15 minutes inside the octagon should be more than enough time for Bontorin to take this fight to the mat where he can show-off his Ju-Jitsu excellence. Steady and consistent grappling should give Bontorin the edge, he looks to be a great prospect for the Flyweight division and I have confidence that he can find a submission this weekend.

Holding a ‘pick em’ line in front of me with a guy who has finished nearly every fight he’s managed to get to the ground… I’ll take it.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Rogerio Bontorin finished Jon Olivar with a RNC R1 at Brave CF 3 (2017) #UFCFortaleza #UFCFightNight144 pic.twitter.com/moTGW4Rp5J
— LORD HONKY HUMUNGUS (@Mr_Honky) January 21, 2019
"}[/]

Some statistics below you may find interesting

· Bontorin is undefeated at Flyweight (125lbs)

· Paiva holds a 1-1 record outside of Brazil

· Bontorin has seen the judges’ scorecards just once in thirteen fights

Prediction: Rogerio Bontorin @ [1.91] [10/11] [-110] with William Hill

UFC Fight Night 156 takes place on Saturday 10th August live from the Antel Arena in Uruguay.
