Let’s take a more in-depth look into this weekend’s UFC Middleweight fight between Brazilian Ju-Jitsu Specialist Jacare Souza and three-fight streak finisher Jack Hermansson

It’s been way too long since I’ve seen the gator himself in action, six months isn’t a huge fight gap but when it’s Jacare Souza I want to see him fight on a regular basis. Oh, and the nickname is in place for a reason, Jacare Souza has 14 professional career wins by way of submission… stay away from the ground, he’ll snap your limb away in a heartbeat.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": ""}[/]

Seeking UFC Middleweight gold, Jacare has said if he doesn’t receive a title fight upon his next win then he might retire. A story we’ve heard time and time again from fighters but just how serious can Jacare be? We’ll find out this weekend in Florida. Alternate win’s and losses since February 2017 might not back up Jacare’s claim to a title shot, but looking at his losses versus current Middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and former title contender Kelvin Gastelum. Hermansson has fought nobody of this caliber, and without that fight experience against top-five elite level middleweight’s… I struggle to see any type of advantage here for Hermansson, I can watch back the very impressive highlight reel that Jack Hermansson has… but what can I learn when his previous two wins by submission give me no faith considering his fighting one of the best grapplers the UFC Middleweight division has ever seen.

Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza

Hailing from the beautiful European country of Sweeden, Jack Hermansson is looking for his third win within four months after stepping in short notice to replace Yoel Romero and go toe to toe with the upper echelon the UFC has to offer. Holding three consecutive win’s by finish Jack should have confidence but not let his submission victories get to his head, because if Souza takes him into deep waters… It could be an early night for the Swede. With the reach advantage evident, and the youth on his side… It might be in Jack’s interest to try and keep this fight standing, keep at range and try to outstrike the Brazilian. That said, Hermansson like’s to finish his fight’s on the ground, whether that be by submission or ground and pound. So it will be very interesting to see what game plan he goes with.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

UNBELIEVABLE!

Remember the name Jack Hermansson 🇸🇪🇳🇴

He submits David Branch in just 49 seconds! 👏#UFCPhiladelphia pic.twitter.com/UzBM4prjfP
— UFC on BT Sport (@btsportufc) March 31, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

Statistically, I haven’t been overly interested in the number’s whilst looking into this matchup. Experience wise, Jack is lacking in the level of opposition he has faced so when comparing grappling or striking number’s would be unfair on Jacares behalf.

‘The Gator’ want’s UFC gold and he isn’t getting any younger, Jack Hermansson could propel his name right into title contention with a win over Jacare.. who will be victorious?

What will happen?

No matter how hard I try or no matter how much fight tape I watch on Jack Hermansson, I struggle to visualise any method of victory for him other than maybe capitalising on a tired Jacare in the later rounds… I just don’t see Jack lasting that long to accomplish this.

I think Jacare is equally as confident on the feet than Jack is, so he’ll have no problem using his crisp jab to entering himself into a close enough range that will allow him to initiate a grappling exchange. Once Jacare can do this, I’m not confident in Jack’s ability to escape.

The Odds

Jacare Souza opened up at 1.53 – 8/15 with Will Hill and hasn’t moved at all still sitting at the same price.
