UFC on ESPN 5 is just around the corner, with a trip to Newark New Jersey on the cards. Can we once again land some underdog money?

The Dogs Odds

Hannah Goldy vs Miranda Granger

UFC on ESPN 5 takes place on Saturday 3rd August live from The Prudential Centre In Newark, New Jersey

Betting Tip: Miranda Granger to win @ 2.40 with Coral

The first underdog for UFC Newark will be on the first fight of the night. Two UFC newcomers take centre stage and will swing it out under the Female Flyweight division.

With two similar records and not much separating these ladies in terms of skill-set, I’m still sat here with slight confusion as to why the odds are relatively far apart.

Hannah Goldy currently sits at 1.55 -182, which in my opinion is absurd! Both girls have a clear path to victory and Miranda is actually the larger of the two with more professional fights than her opponent. Both girls are low level with small records and with minimal fight tape to watch… I can only believe the bookmakers are favouring Goldy because she has a win over Gillian Robertson on her record.

I do believe Goldy does hold the striking advantage but the more well-rounded fighter is without a doubt the underdog. With the odds so off, there is only one side to be on in this matchup.

Some statistics below you may find interesting

Both fighters are making their UFC debut

Both fighters are undefeated

Granger is making her debut at Flyweight (125lbs)

Prediction: Miranda Granger to win @ [2.40] [11/8] [+138] with Bet365

Antonina Shevchenko vs Lucie Pudilova

UFC on ESPN 5 takes place on Saturday 3rd August live from The Prudential Centre In Newark, New Jersey

Betting Tip: Shevchenko by Decision @ 2.01 +101 with Bet365

Next up we have another female Flyweight bout when the sister of current UFC champion ‘Valentina Shevchenko’ makes her third walk to the UFC octogen with a 1-1 record. Antonina Shevchenko will take on Lucie Pudilova in what should be a good opportunity for Shevchenko to showcase her striking skills.

In her previous bout and first loss, Shevchenko struggled to deal with the grappling exchanges and stylistically found her match. Lucie Pudilova, on the other hand, does not offer that same threat coming into the fight on Saturday. Shevchenko triumphs Pudilova in all striking statistics and when comparing the two… Shevchenko does hold a clear striking advantage.

With no minimal threat offered by Pudilova and her ground game and the majority of the time, these girls are going the distance, it would be stupid of me to ignore the Shevchenko by decision prop.

Yes, technically we’re not selecting an underdog but the price and probability make this play a great chance to make some plus money from a very well-prepared set of odds. We should see a stand-up war for 15 minutes and I have to give that edge in Shevchenko’s favour.

Some statistics below you may find interesting

Neither girl has ever been finished inside the distance

Shevchenko has the advantage in all striking statistics

Pudilova has gone the distance in 4 of her previous 5 fights

Prediction: Antonina Shevchenko to win by Decision @ [2.01] [1/1] [+101] with Bet365

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A few weeks ago I asked UFC light heavyweight Kennedy Nzechukwu what his goals were. Kennedy is a huge athlete and has the physical tools to become one of the divisions future prospects but standing in his way is a heavy-hitting Serbian in Darko Stosic.

I’m going to make an assumption here and that assumption will be that Darko will want to take this fight down to the ground. In reverse, Kennedy will need to avoid grappling exchanges and keep the striking battle on the outside. Kennedy steps in with the size of a heavyweight, Darko is quite small and without discrediting the current champ who is also rather small in comparison… Unless you have elite level wrestling, you’re going to struggle up against guys stepping in at 6 foot 5 or above.

Kennedy came up short against Paul Craig with a loss via submission but I don’t think Darko will have the gas tank to finish Kennedy in any round other than the first. I noticed Darko slows down considerably when entering the second round and when he suffered a loss to Devin Clark, this issue was apparent.

Dog money coming in on the bigger guy and more well-rounded striker, yes, please. The long limbs and body size of Kennedy should be more than enough to fend of Darko, the fight has potential to see Kennedy drop the first round but I think the new blood could finish this one by knockout with his kickboxing background being something that we should take into consideration. Kennedy reminds me of Greg Hardy, young and green but has the potential to be a killer in a division lacking that star power.

Some statistics below you may find interesting

Kennedy is returning after his first loss

Kennedy has a 6inch reach advantage

Darko’s previous 3 wins came by round 1 KO

Prediction: Kennedy to win @ [2.15] [23/20] [+115] with Coral

UFC on ESPN 5 takes place on Saturday 3rd August live from The Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey.
