A battle of the greatest grapplers will stage the main event in Singapore with Ben Askren vs Demian Maia but amongst the hype can we fine pick some UFC predictions with underdog betting money?

On the preliminary card, we’ll see a matchup between Alex White and Rafael Fiziev.

UFC veteran Alex ‘The Spartan’ White enters the UFC octagon this weekend for the tenth time, with nothing other than a victory at mind. The road has been rocky with 4 wins, 5 losses under contract with the UFC but, White will hold a huge experience advantage against his opponent. (6-1) Rafael Fiziev has and a class striking game, but this is MMA, a one-trick pony won’t be good enough.

White will head into Saturday's fight hoping for his first set of back to back wins since 2014, consistency has failed White in the past but; his previous win against Dan Moret could allow White to have confidence boost needed in the mental warfare. Fiziev comes in after a losing UFC debut whilst White is coming off a win. Momentum could be the key, for the veteran White to pull off an upset.

Rafael Fiziev

Age: 26

Record: 6-1-0

Height: 5ft 8”

Reach: 70”

Current Streak: 1 loss

Gym: Tiger Muay Thai

Notable Gym Members: Petr Yan, Khalil Rountree & Maribek Taisumov

Significant Strikes (UFC)

Landed Per Min: 0.70

Accuracy: 100%

Defence: 16%

Grappling (UFC)

Takedown Average: 0

Takedown Accuracy: 0%

Takedown Defended: 0%

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/8CBxzoaygXg\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen></iframe>"}[/]

Rafael Fiziev had an unfortunate UFC debut when matched up against Magomed Mustafaev. An absolute mauling from the Russian left Fiziev in the ever so popular ‘lost on debut’ category. I think the fight was more than octagon jitters; Magomed completely outclassed Fiziev and finished the fight within the first round.

The comeback for Fiziev should be an easier task than his debut, White is a UFC veteran but, has shown a lot of gaps in his downfalls to fighters such as; Jim Miller, James Krause and Tony Martin. That said, Fiziev has fought six times as a professional… does the experience of Alex White triumph the up and comer? Fiziev hasn’t fought the high-level UFC opposition, through his seven professional bouts; none of those has been won at this level.

Fiziev should out-class White if this fight stays standing for the entire 15 minutes. The clear path to victory and the way to earn that bounce-back victory should be a striking game-plan for Fiziev.

At the end of the day

It’s hard to handicap Fiziev with favourite odds on his side when we haven’t seen him defeat anybody inside a UFC cage. His regional scene fights gave Fiziev an impressive highlight reel but the level of competition was low.

Alex White hasn’t been a trust-worthy bet in the past but, he has the size advantage to help control the distance, wherever he may want to take the fight shouldn’t be a problem. I already think Fiziev is too small for the Lightweight division, and he’ll suffer the height/reach disadvantage in the majority of his contests in this weight class. I believe White can be superior in the clinch/grappling and make this a scrappy one, a territory that Fiziev isn’t so familiar with.

The striking advantage should favour Fiziev, and I should think he’d want to keep the fight standing. White will mix-up his attacking offence and should be the better-rounded martial artist.

Some statistics below you may find interesting

- Fiziev has 6/7 fights ended in round 1

- White has the advantage in all grappling statistics

- White is 3-5 in his last eight fights

Enrique Barzola vs Movsar Evloev

Featherweight Bout

UFC Betting Prediction: Enrique Barzola to win @ 2.62 [+162] with Bet365

Enrique Barzola

Age: 30

Record: 16-4-1

Height: 5ft 7”

Reach: 70”

Current Streak: 1 win

Gym: American Kickboxing Academy

Notable Gym Members: Khabib, Daniel Cormier & Cain Velasquez

Significant Strikes (UFC)

Landed Per Min: 3.77

Accuracy: 41%

Defence: 69%

Grappling (UFC)

Takedown Average: 5.00

Takedown Accuracy: 47%

Takedown Defended: 80%

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/kREET4NWaX4\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen></iframe>"}[/]

Enrique Barzola embodies the true ‘warrior spirit’ of a martial artist. The Peruvian UFC vet has been racking up his UFC win tally since 2015 and currently posts a 6-2 record with his only losses coming against Kyle Bochniak (In a very questionable decision loss) and Kelvin Aguilar. With all eight of his UFC contracted contests ending by decision, Barzola has obtained a huge amount of in-cage experience.

The former ‘Ultimate Fighter Latin’ contest winner won’t have any problems being tipped as the underdog in this one; he’s overcome situations that held more pressure much like his debut on UFC T.V in the finale of TUF (The Ultimate Fighter).

I believe avoiding the takedown offence from Movsar won’t be a problem. Throughout his entire UFC venture, Barzola has only been taken down one time. I’m not saying Movsar won’t get one takedown but, I doubt we’ll any sort of dominance in the wrestling department.

Movsar Evloev

Age: 25

Record: 11-0

Height: 5ft 7”

Reach: 72”

Current Streak: 11 wins

Gym: Tiger Muay Thai

Notable Gym Members: Petr Yan, Khalil Rountree & Maribek Taisumov

Significant Strikes

Landed Per Min: 3.33

Accuracy: 64%

Defence: 55%

Grappling

Takedown Average: 5.00

Takedown Accuracy: 31%

Takedown Defended: 100%

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/5FDWzg86odo\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen></iframe>"}[/]

At the end of the day

It’s hard to go against a Russian force who’s riding an 11-fight win streak. Movsar hasn’t given me a whole bunch of reason’s to fade him. The former undefeated M1-Champion made his transition into the UFC a successful one. With his UFC out the way, his undefeated record in-tact, Movsar’s confidence will remain unscathed when facing Barzola.

Movsar can certainly bring the grinding style but, Barzola matches up very well. Having only suffered one takedown through 8 fights in the UFC I think Barzola has a great chance at dictating where the fight goes. If Movsar can’t get the takedown, I can’t envision him winning all three rounds on the scorecards.

Do we think Movsar is the more proficient striker? Probably not, Barzola should have enough output to win at least two rounds. I do worry for the cardio of Barzola late in the fight but other than that, I think Barzola can excel in this style of fight.

Some statistics below you may find interesting

- Barzola has never been finished

- All 8 of Barzola’s UFC fights have ended by decision

- Evloev is undefeated in 11 fights

Dogs and Their Odds: Extra Betting Predictions

- 0.5u on Maurice Greene to win @ 1.90 [+190] with Bet365

- 0.5u M.Greene vs Sergey Pavlovich – the fight goes the distance @ 3.00 [+200] Bet365

UFC Fight Night 162 takes place on Saturday 26th October live from The Singapore Indoor Stadium

If you would like to check up on any underdogs or odds not mentioned in this article then click HERE.
