After a complicated week, the system bets return with some interesting angles for this week's action.

Last week was not a good week to start tracking the system bets. My system picked up 2 wins out of 9 and ended up with a loss of nearly 4 points. There’s not much point talking about “close” and what “might have been”, system betting like this is binary. Either it’s a bet or it isn’t. Either it’s a loss or it isn’t.

This week is quite sparse on bets right now. There are only 3 qualifying selections at this early stage so I’m going to take you through each of those tips, give you the odds at the time of writing and also looking at some of the other stats on these matches.

Athletic Bilbao vs RCD Espanyol

First up is a Friday night game with Athletic Bilbao taking on RCD Espanyol in the Spanish La Liga. If you follow the selection made by my system then you’ll be backing Espanyol in this one at odds of 379/100. These two sides sit side by side in the league (12th and 13th place respectively) and neither side appear to be in danger of going down with significantly weaker teams in Spain’s top flight this season. This one does look like a tough bet to win when you check out the stats. Espanyol’s away form is awful and Bilbao are average at home, ie significantly better than Espanyol away. Espanyol average less than a goal per game away from home but Bilbao are bang on the money with 1 goal per game from their home matches. There is value here though with the bookies giving us a slither of a reason to bet on this.

Bologna vs Cagliari

It’s over to Italy’s Serie A for our other two bets and the first one to start is at midday(ish) on Sunday with Bologna welcoming Cagliari to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. Much the same as this week’s first selection, the away side in this one are poor on the road and are not big scorers away from the Sardegna Arena (0.54 goals per game away from home). In fact, they are the worst side on the road so they are going to need to up their game if they are to make the most of the value that the bookies have afforded here. You can get about 16/5 for the away side. Make of that what you will. Cagliari do sit above Bologna in the league and also have a good record against them historically so this is an interesting one.

Fiorentina vs Lazio

Taking place later that day is the third game I’m betting on this week. It’s probably my favourite bet as well as I really like the selection of Lazio as they travel to Fiorentina. Lazio are a very good side this season and are about as good on the road as they are at home. Statistically, they win on most things here. They have a better defence, are in better form and have the better overall record. Fiorentina have the better relative attack but it’s going to be fascinating to see if they can get past Lazio’s solid defence.

You can back this one at 79/50 and this is my favourite bet of the week.

Please be aware though, regardless of what my personal thoughts are, each bet stands on its own merits and I’m not backing one bet with a larger stake than another.

System bets for the weekend

Athletic Bilbao vs RCD Espanyol: Espanyol to win at 379/100 (4.75)

Bologna vs Cagliari: Cagliari to win at 16/5 (4.20)

Fiorentina vs Lazio: Lazio to win at 79/50 (2.55)

All odds are from Bet365
