An intense London derby is on the cards...

Arsenal vs Chelsea

Sunday, December 29, at The Emirates

London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea will lock horns for an eagerly anticipated clash at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon. A brave new era began for the Gunners on Boxing Day when new manager Mikel Arteta led them to a 1-1 draw away at Bournemouth. Their forwards looked a little rusty and Arteta will hope to see Alexandre Lacazette and Reiss Nelson looking sharper on Sunday. Chelsea slumped to a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Southampton on Boxing Day and they will also be desperate to bounce back with victory, so this could be an entertaining contest.

Team News

Arteta said that he will axe any players that do not display the requisite desire to fight for the team, so it was perhaps surprising to see him start both Mesut Ozil and Granit Xhaka against Bournemouth. Lucas Torreira completed a midfield three, with Nelson and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang either side of Lacazette up front. Full-backs Hector Bellerin, Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac are out injured, so midfielders Bukayo Saka and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have had to fill in. David Luiz and Sokratis received the nod to start in defence, but the Greek centre-back limped off injured and we could see Shkodran Mustafi start against Chelsea. Record signing Nicolas Pepe could offer another option if Arteta decides to mix things up.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has opted for a back three of Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori in their last three games. He could persist with that against Arsenal, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Emerson as wing-backs and N’Golo Kante in midfield with Jorginho. Lampard could turn to Matteo Kovacic for some fresh legs in midfield. Willian and Callum Hudson-Odoi started either side of Tammy Abraham against Southampton, but you would expect Mason Mount to start against Arsenal, while Pedro, Christian Pulisic and Ross Barkley offer alternative options.

Betting Analysis

It is hard to see Arsenal keeping a clean sheet in this game, particularly if the calamitous Mustafi starts at the back. The Gunners try to pass it out from the back, but they often lack the quality to pull it off and that can leave them exposed. Yet Arsenal should also fancy their chances of scoring in this game. Arteta may be persuaded to play Aubameyang down the middle, with Pepe out wide, and that would make them a lot more dangerous. Chelsea have lost four of their last six games, and they are not keeping many clean sheets.

Tips: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at 8/11 (1.73) with Boyle Sports; draw at 3.85 (14/5) with Unibet
