Atletico have a great record against Celta Vigo...

Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo

Saturday, September 21, at Wanda Metropolitano

Atletico Madrid lost their 100% record for the season when they slumped to a surprise 2-0 defeat away at Real Sociedad last weekend. They remain top of the table, but they will be keen to return to winning ways at the weekend. It is perhaps surprising to see them playing on Saturday, as it does not give them long to recover from Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Juventus, but Atletico boast a very strong home record in La Liga and they should be able to win this one against a struggling Celta Vigo side.

Team News

Atletico manager Diego Simeone appears to have settled on Renan Lodi and Kieran Trippier as his first-choice full-backs. Mario Hermoso may return to partner Jose Gimenez at the heart of defence after Atletico conceded twice when he was dropped in favour of Stefan Savic. Saul Niguez and Koke are firmly established in the Atletico midfield, and an attack containing Joao Felix, Diego Costa and Thomas Lemar should be full of pace, power and creativity. Alvaro Morata remains injured.

Celta Vigo had two men sent off in their 2-0 defeat at the hands of newly promoted Granada last weekend. Jorge Colmeiro and Fran Beltran will be suspended for this game, and that leaves the club light in midfield and at the centre of defence. It is hardly an ideal situation when you are heading into battle against the likes of Costa and Niguez. Iago Aspas and Denis Suarez are dangerous going forwards for Celta Vigo, but they were starved of service against Granada and they may not see too much of the ball on Saturday either.

Betting Analysis

Atletico Madrid have beaten Celta Vigo in seven of their last eight meetings. Six of those seven victories have been to nil. They beat Celta Vigo 2-0 at Wanda Metropolitano last season and 3-0 in the previous campaign. This is a game that Simeone will expect three points from, as his team have been impeccable at home for a long time. Celta Vigo will be missing some key men, and that does not bode well for this trip to Madrid.

Tips: Atletico Madrid to win to nil at 2.05 (21/20) with Bet365; Atletico to win and over 1.5 goals at 1.80 (4/5) with Ladbrokes
