Atletico are bidding for another classic win to nil...

Atletico Madrid vs Eibar

Sunday, September 1, at Wanda Metropolitano

These teams have met 10 times since Eibar secured promotion to La Liga Primera and Atletico have picked up eight wins and two draws. Diego Simeone’s men really have Eibar’s measure and five of those eight wins have been to nil. However, it is interesting to note that those two draws came in Eibar’s last two visits to Wanda Metropolitano, which is usually a fortress. Yet Atletico picked up a customary 1-0 victory over Eibar when they last met, at Ipurua Municipal Stadium in April, and they will aim for a similar result this weekend.

Eibar have built up a reputation as an exciting, attack-minded team during their five years in the top flight. It has allowed them to punch above their weight and establish themselves as a mid-table club. However, they have made a poor start to the current campaign, losing 2-1 away at newly promoted Mallorca in their opener and then drawing 0-0 at home with another newly promoted club, Osasuna, at the weekend. Atletico have won both of their games 1-0 so far, and their defence looks as strong as ever, despite losing Diego Godin in the summer.

Team News

Simeone opted for a back four in Atletico’s opening day victory over Getafe, but new left-back Renan Lodi was sent off and picked up a one game ban. The manager then opted to start new signing Mario Hermoso alongside Jose Gimenez and Stefan Savic in a back three against Leganes last time out, with Kieran Trippier and Thomas Lemar operating as wing-backs. Lodi is now back from suspension, and it will be interesting to see if Simeone reverts to a back four. Koke, Saul Niguez and Thomas Partey are well established as a midfield triumvirate, while €120 million wunderkind Joao Felix has plenty of free rein alongside traditional centre-forward Alvaro Morata.

Eibar lost key players Joan Jordan and Ruben Pena in the summer and then spent around €18 million on a handful of new players. However, they have not yet broken into the starting 11, so it is pretty much the same team that finished 12th last season. Marko Dmitrovic, Paulo Oliveira, Gonzalo Escalante and Sergi Enrich provide a strong spine, but Atletico Madrid look superior in every department.

Betting Analysis

You can find pretty attractive prices on a home win for Atletico Madrid due to their inability to beat Eibar here in the past two seasons. They are 1.44 (4/9) to win this game and that looks like a good addition to any accumulators. Atletico are in excellent form right now and they should be able to make it nine wins out of 11 against Eibar when they meet on Sunday. Going for them to win to nil adds a lot more value to the bet, and that looks attractive after Eibar failed to score against Osasuna last time out.

Tip: Atletico Madrid win to nil at 2.00 (evens) with Bet365
