Can Barca topple Sevilla?

Barcelona vs Sevilla

Sunday, October 6, at Camp Nou

Barcelona have been impeccable at home so far this season. They have taken maximum points at Camp Nou and banged in 12 goals in three games there, while conceding five. They miss star man Lionel Messi, who has been missing with an injury, but they still boast plenty of firepower in the likes of Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann. They are up against a Sevilla side that have the best away record in the league, so we should be in for a gripping game between these Spanish giants on Sunday.

Team News

Barcelona have had rotten luck with injuries so far this season. Messi has missed most of the campaign, while Ousmane Dembele and exciting youngster Ansu Fati have also been sidelined. Yet all three could make their comebacks in time for this game, either on the bench or in the starting 11. Barcelona have a tough Champions League game in midweek against Inter, but they are at home and they will have plenty of time to recover for this game. Jordi Alba could also return to bolster the defence, while Frenkie de Jong should continue improving alongside Sergio Busquets in the Barcelona midfield as he adjusts to the rigours of Spanish football.

Sevilla have made a strong start to the season after sporting director Monchi oversaw a sweeping squad overhaul in the summer. Dutch striker Luuk de Jong has slotted in nicely alongside Nolito and Lucas Ocampos in attack, while Ever Banega and Fernando have looked solid in midfield. Chicharito and Rony Lopes provide exciting options going forward, and Sevilla could well secure a top four spot this season. Beating Barcelona at Camp Nou is an extremely daunting task though.

Betting Analysis

Barcelona are the clear favourites to win this game and deservedly so. They beat Sevilla 4-2 at the Nou Camp last season and 4-2 on the road, and they have not lost to this team since 2015. Some of their big players are starting to return from injury and they should have too much firepower for Sevilla on Sunday. Both teams have European commitments in midweek, and both should have similar levels of energy, but home advantage and technical superiority could be enough to hand Barcelona all three points in this game.

Tip: Barcelona to win and over 1.5 goals at 1.75 (3/4) with Coral
