The bookmakers expect Man City, Liverpool, Juventus and Barcelona to surge through to the semi-finals of the Champions League after the quarter-final draw was made today, while Chelsea were the big winners in the Europa League draw.

Man City remain the favourites to win the Champions League despite being handed a hazardous quarter-final tie against fellow Premiership side Tottenham. Maurcio Pochettino’s men are in poor form right now, but they still have the quality to hurt City and it promises to be a fascinating clash. Man Utd were handed the daunting task of taking on Barcelona over two legs, while Liverpool and Juventus should be pleased with the draw. The Reds were paired with Porto, while Juventus will face Ajax, who knocked Real Madrid out in the previous round.

Man City are now the 9/4 favourites with Betway to win the tournament, with Juventus priced at 7/2 and Barca at 4/1. Liverpool are 4/1 with most bookmakers after receiving a comfortable tie against Ajax, while Man Utd have drifted all the way out to 20/1 with Bet365 as odds compilers have seemingly Chris Smalling’s chances of thriving against Lionel Messi are slim. Spurs are now out at 25/1 after landing Man City, while Ajax are 40/1 and Porto are 100/1 outsiders.

Whoever prevails out of Man City and Tottenham will go on to face the winner of Juventus and Ajax in the semis. Liverpool will earn a semi-final clash with either Barcelona or Man Utd if they can get past Porto in the next round. The prospect of four English teams making the semis is now over after that all-Premiership clash between Spurs and City was announced, but England remains the clear favourite to be the winning nationality. Messi put two goals past Lyon on Wednesday night and he is the 1/2 favourite to finish the competition as top scorer, with old rival Cristiano Ronaldo out at 7/1 after his hat-trick against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Juventus are best priced at just 3/10 with Betfair to qualify for the semi-finals at Ajax’s expense. Liverpool are a mere 1/4 with Bet365, and Barcelona are 3/10 to surge past Man Utd, while Man City are 2/7 to qualify instead of Spurs. The bookies therefore expect Man City v Juventus and Liverpool v Barcelona in the semis, which would be very exciting indeed.

In the Europa League, Arsenal were handed an extremely unfortunate draw against Napoli. Those two were joint second favourites before the draw was made and one must now be eliminated before the semi-finals. It should work out really well for favourites Chelsea, who were handed an infinitely more comfortable draw against Slavia Prague. They have now gone in to just 7/4 to win the tournament, while Betway has 4/1 on Napoli and 9/2 on Arsenal. Yet the Gunners are in good form right now, they should fancy their chances of toppling Napoli and that might make an attractive bet. You can also go each-way on get a third of the odds if they finish as runners-up.
