Dortmund should have enough to return to winning ways at home against Werder Bremen

Dortmund vs Werder Bremen

Saturday, September 28, at Signal Iduna Park (Dortmund)

For the 2nd time in a row, Dortmund struggled on road. Despite dominating the match and clearly being the better team they somehow managed concede a goal in the last minutes of the game and instead of 4 points they returned home with 1. Not just that but that goal was an own-goal from Delaney, showing once again how inconsistent Dortmund are away from home. They now sit 3rd in the standings with 10 points, 3 behind leaders RB Leipzig and 1 behind the reigning champs Bayern Munich. On the other side, it was for the 1st time this season Werder Bremen failed to find the back of the net. Last season this happened just once against Bayern Munich, this time they failed to score against RB Leipzig (the best defensive side in Bundesliga with just 3 goals conceded in 5 matches). Next week Dortmund travel to play Slavia Prague in Champions League in what should be an away win.

Team News

Dortmund’s €25.5m transfers Nico Schulz failed to recover on time being ruled out for the clash against Eintracht and is expected to need more recovery time from his ankle injury. Mats Hummels who has been in spectacular since re-joining Dortmund went off after 60 minutes with a back injury with Lucien Le Favre expected not to risk him on Saturday and have him fully fit in Champions League. With that said, Dortmund, who have been a much better team defensively with him on the pitch, are expected to concede on Saturday. Finally, some good news for Marco Reus and Co, both Lukasz Piszczek and Mateu Morey have made a full recovery and are ready to play. Former Dortmund star, Nuri Sahin is ready to face his former team after missing last weekend after being red carded against Union Berlin. Still, Werder Bremen have huge injury issues with many important players being ruled-out with injuries.

Betting Analysis

Dortmund should have enough to win this match. They are huge favourites being priced at 1.27 with Unibet to win the match while Werder are huge underdogs being priced at 12.0 with Bet365. Werder Bremen have never been a defensive side, and despite missing many important players they will come to pull-off the upset. That doesn’t mean they will succeed, but what we are trying to say is that they will not park the bus and try to play for the draw. We’ve seen spectacular matches between the 2 sides. We’ve seen both teams scoring in their last 11 head-to-heads across all competitions and the “Alex Classic” (both teams to score and over 2.5 goals) in 9 of their previous 10 Bundesliga mutual encounters. We expect another exciting match with Dortmund determined to return to winning ways.

Best tip for the match: Dortmund to win and over 3.5 goals in the match at 2.2 with Paddy Power
