League 1 will take centre stage for this week’s lower league betting predictions, who are the strongest hopefuls looking for that precious promotion spot?

Sunderland vs Southend

Saturday, November 2nd at the Stadium Of Light

Sunderland will play host to bottom of the league Southend United this weekend. After their abysmal performances last weekend and mid-week in the EFL cup, a fire underneath the backsides of the Sunderland squad will be hot enough to defend their 3-streak unbeaten run on home soil.

Sunderland was expected to have another good run this season which hasn’t planned out exactly how they want it but, 8th place in the table just 8 points outside of the top spot isn’t all doom and gloom. Their home form of late has been top-notch, never short of goals and unbeaten in their previous three at the Stadium of Light.

Southend appointed former Arsenal defender Sol Cambell as their manager last week. When Sol sat in the stands to watch his squad on signing day, they sure did show the new manager why he was appointed; suffering an astonishing 7-1 defeat to Doncaster in front of the home crowd. Taking the reins a week later, Sol wasn’t able to construct a team worthy of victory but they did only lose 3-1 to possibly the best team in the league right now (Ipswich). Hiring new management for a club that sits in the relegation zone with just 5 points and 1 win certainly won’t make an impact overnight but, it gives the Southend fans a small glimmer of hope with 29 matches remaining this season.

Sunderland should have full momentum in this fixture and I don’t expect Southend to gain much possession. Four of Sunderland’s previous six games versus Southend have been an easy win with

over 2.5 goals in each of these games. Southend hasn’t won an away game since MK Dons 4 games ago and Sunderland hasn’t lost a home game since Coventry beat them 10 games back. Sunderland has also won 55% of their previous 20 home games whilst Southend has lost 55% of their last 20 away clashes. A clean-sheet for Sunderland on home turf wouldn’t be a surprise as Southend has failed to score in their last six away games. Sunderland on home turf is not a team to play with, they’ve scored nine times from their past 11 home wins whilst Southend has conceded 9 times in the 11 away games lost.

This will be Sunderland’s game to lose unless Cambell has found an entirely new back four and star strikers then, Southend and their chances this weekend look slim. The bookmaker is one step ahead of us on this one, so we’ll take Sunderland with the goal market combined.

Best Bet: 1.5u on Sunderland win & over 2.5 goals @ [1.87] [-107] with Coral

Rochdale vs Bristol Rovers

Saturday, November 2nd at Spotland Stadium

Mid-table adversaries Rochdale and Bristol Rovers will go head to head this weekend, here at Odds Market we’re expecting a tight game with a lack of goals going forward.

A hopeful three-game win streak for Rochdale came to a crashing halt last Saturday when an in-form Oxford United gave them a 3-0 spanking. Bristol Rovers walked away with 1 point in their 2-2 draw against Portsmouth but more notably than their opponents; they’ve failed to take 3 points from

their previous three fixtures. A statistical punt seems logical for these teams as it points towards a low scoring affair between the two. Bristol’s previous 20 away games have produced an average of 2 goals conceded per game and Bristol has scored just 1 goal on average away from home. The under 2.5 has hit 14 times from Bristol’s past 20 games and I see no reason why this trend shouldn’t continue.

Recent form for both sides during the past few weeks makes me even more confident with the under 2.5 goals. Rochdale recent games have seen only one team score and both teams to grab a goal has only happened in one of Bristol’s previous five matches.

Rochdale could easily take the home win here but, I prefer our chances with the goals market. Failing to grab a win in their previous three and failing to score a goal in their previous two, It doesn’t look to be a positive weekend for this Bristol City side.

Best Bet: 1.5u under 2.5 goals @ [1.79] [-126] with Bet365

EFL bets, Tips & Predictions (All 1u Plays Unless Stated Otherwise)

EPL:

Arsenal vs Wolves – both teams to score in the second half @ 3.25 [+3.25] with Bet365

Liverpool win & both teams to score vs A.Villa @ 2.80 [+180] with Bet365

Chelsea win & over 1.5 goals vs Watford @ 1.95 [-105] with Coral

EFL Championship:

Leeds vs QPR under 2.5 goals @ 2.22 [+122] with Bet365

Cardiff win vs Birmingham @ 2.00 [+100] with William Hill

West Brom win vs Stoke @ 2.45 [+145] with Unibet

English League One

Coventry win vs Accrington @ 1.85 [-115] with Coral
