After the first leg matches end with two clear victors, let’s take a look at the 3rd,4th,5th and 6th place Championship teams who battle it out for the one remaining promotion position which takes them onto the grandest stage of them all… the English Premier League (EPL)

Playoff Semi-Final Second Leg (The Hawthorns)

West Brom vs Aston Villa

Tuesday, 14th May 20:00 pm (BST)

Amazing turn around for Aston Villa this past weekend as they secured a win in the first leg match within the final 15 minutes of the game. Villa dominated possession for the majority of the first half but struggled to get on the end of anything significant and wasted their good opportunity’s. Caught off guard West Brom took the lead early and managed to hold that lead right up until the final quarter of the game.

With nothing left to lose, Villa had no choice but to go all in as West Brom were seemingly heading into the second leg at their ground with the advantage, then from out of nowhere with a 25-foot strike, substitute Conor Hourihane’s shot whistled into the back net making it a tied game.

The bad luck didn’t end there for West Brom as Villa were awarded a penalty which turned the game around entirely, leaving West Brom fans in disarray. The icing on the cake wasn’t laid just yet, West Brom’s striker Dwight Gayle managed to get himself sent off leaving West Brom a striker short for the second leg on Tuesday. I do think Villa fully deserved the win and were the better team from start to finish, heading into hostile territory shouldn’t be a problem knowing they have a huge advantage with the first leg win.

Aston Villa Draw No Bet @ 1.96 – 19/20 with Marathon Bet (1u)

Playoff Semi-Final Second Leg (Elland Road)

Leeds United vs Derby County

Wednesday, 15th May 20:00 pm (BST)

A disappointing effort from ‘The Rams’ this past weekend as they were dominated on the pitch and took a loss at home to Leeds United. With their bad form, Leeds United kicked that right on the head in this game when they walked onto the pitch at Pride Park and took over in every statistic. More possession, higher pass completion, more attempts on goal and most importantly… one goal more than Derby giving them the biggest advantage that all four teams have with the away victory.

Away goals are not classed as two in playoff competition, but all Leeds United will have to do on Wednesday is hold Derby to a draw and they get to do it on home soil.

Leeds deservingly head into the second leg mid-week versus a cagey looking Derby side who honestly didn’t play like a team who had the chance for Premiership promotion. With the long trip from the Midlands up north to Leeds, I’m struggling to find any advantage for Derby here other than heart and determination they might pick up coming into the game with a loss.

After the champion’s league turn around, we know that 1 goal home victory can mean nothing, Leeds will be fully aware of this and I expect a tighter game than before. Tight games equal minimal goals and with such a great performance from Leeds in the first game, I expect them to pick up right where they left off when they kick off the second leg on home turf.

Leeds United Win @ 1.73 – 11/10 with Bet365 (1.3u)

Under 2.5 Goals @ 2.00 – 1/1 with Bet365 (1u)

Click Here for the best available odds

Some More Football Bet’s I’m On

English League One Playoffs:
Portsmouth vs Sunderland – Under 2.5 Goals @ 2.10 – 11/10 with Bodog (0.5u)

English League One Playoffs:
Charlton vs Doncaster – Charlton Win @ 2.00 – 1/1 with William Hill (0.5u)

Round-Up

Aston Villa Draw No Bet @ 1.96 – 24/25 with Marathon Bet (1u)

Leeds United Win @ 1.73 – 8/11 with Bet365 (1.3u)

Under 2.5 Goals @ 2.00 – 1/1 with Bet365 (1u)

Full odds for this week’s English Championship Games available HERE

Some of the Best Odds for this week’s Championship games available @ Bet365

Follow Dave Bets on Twitter HERE
