24 teams enter this years Euro 2020 group stage, with 16 of those making it into the last 16 round. That leaves us 8 teams who will pack their bags and head home on June 23rd. We are going to delve into some of the teams we believe will exit the tournament in the group stage.

The Format

The format for the tournament is simple, you have 6 groups of 4 teams. The top 2 in each group will automatically qualify for the knockout phase, while the four best 3rd placed teams will enter the knockout phase also. So you can finish 3rd and make the last 16, you just need to make sure you are inside the top 4 of the 3rd placed teams and obviously all teams who finish 4th will be on the plane home.

Group A

The issue with this Switzerland team is their goalscoring, it's difficult to see where their goals are going to come from. If they can somehow manage to get out of this group, it will be because of a 1-0 win that will be their likeliest winning score, and we are even going to boldly suggest that said goal will come from a set piece or penalty. Their three opponents in group A have combined for 13 goals conceded in 24 games, which doesn’t bode well for the Swiss. At plus money we like their chances of exiting the group.

Team To Exit Group: Switzerland

Best Bet: Switzerland Not To Qualify at 2.75 with William Hill

Group B

Finland are in their first major tournament and have the misfortune of being drawn into a difficult group. Belgium should breeze past them, their Scandinavian matchup with Denmark should be interesting but we believe the Dans will be too strong. And finally, facing Russia in St. Petersburg won't be an easy task. Ultimately Finland wont have the fire power to make it into the last 16.

Russia are one of our picks to finish 3rd in their group and to not make it into the last 16. Their only win should come against Finland, but even a draw could potentially be on the cards there. If Russia finish with 3 points, it will come down to goals scored and we simply can’t see them scoring against Belgium or Denmark.

Team To Exit Group: Finland / Russia

Best Bet: Finland Under 2.5 Goals at 1.83 with Bet365 / Russia Not To Qualify at 2.75 with William Hill

Group C

North Macedonia come into the Euros as the lowest ranked team in the competition, although they might feel they have a chance at a result during their opener against Austria. The Macedonians would be thrilled to pick up points against the Netherlands and Ukraine. A 3rd place group finish isn’t beyond them, as we feel they could cause an upset against Austria and finish 3rd in the group. Unfortunately, we don’t believe North Macedonia’s 3rd place finish will be enough to see them into the knockouts.

The same theory can be exercised with Austria. We feel that even if they do pick up a win over North Macedonia in the opener, their results against Ukraine and the Netherlands won't be enough to see them through into the last 16. Both sides will be low scoring and potentially score under 2.5 tournament goals.

Team To Exit Group: North Macedonia / Austria

Best Bet: Austria Not To Qualify at 2.75 with William Hill

Group D

Although the Czech Republic are far from the worst team in the tournament, they have a very difficult group with England, Croatia, and Scotland. Furthermore they will have to play Scotland in Glasgow, which for us is a massive game changer. If this was a neutral ground, they might have a chance.

Ultimately, even if the Czechs beat Scotland, we can't see them picking up any points against England or Croatia. This is a pure value selection; we are getting the Czechs to exit at 1.9 compared to Scotland at 1.60. We have the Czechs finishing last in this group, so we believe there is significant value on them exiting the tournament during the group stage at 1.90.

They are 2.40 to finish bottom of the group, which could possibly be a better bet, as a 3rd place finish might see them into the last 16.

Team To Exit Group: Czech Republic

Best Bet: Czech Republic Not To Qualify at 1.90 with Paddy Power

Group E

Slovakia have an experienced squad and two players who featured at the 2010 world cup for them are still playing for the national team: Marek Hasmik and Juraj Kucka. This team lacks any flair and like Switzerland they lack a true goalscorer amongst their ranks. They have been drawn into a very difficult group with Spain, Sweden and Poland and one would suspect the wooden spoon could be theirs before a ball is even kicked.

Interestingly, the Slovaks are 1.45 to not make the knockout phase, which seems a little high to us. Yes the odds are low but were expecting something around 1.30. There is value here, unfortunately the low odds make it hard to bet.

Team To Exit Group: Slovakia

Best Bet: Slovakia Not To Qualify at 1.45 with Unibet

Group F

Poor Hungary have been dealt the most difficult group of all, as they face Portugal, France, and Germany. No doubt the Hungarian fans will be looking forward to the tournament, but one would argue that if they ended the tournament with three losses and concede less than six goals, it would be a major success. The Hungarians' odds to quality are as low as 1.18, but a better bet to look at is Hungary under 1.5 points at 1.70.

Team To Exit Group: Hungary

Best Bet: Hungary Under 1.5 Points at 1.70 with Betfair
