I’ll be backing the home side in this one as I think they’re quite a progressive club and certainly represent Azerbaijan very well. Since taking over in 2008 Gurban Gurbanov has introduced an attractive style of play that has seen the club take some major leaps forward. Czech side Slovan Liberec is one of the most successful sides in the history of the Czech Republic.

This should be a good match between these two sides but Qarabag have impressed me whenever I’ve seen them play and they have a good chance of winning this one. With odds of 1.75 available with bet365 and Boylesports I think there’s enough value in this one to back it.

My second bet of the evening is one of the favourites to win the entire competition. After imploding quite spectacularly against Port in the final Champions League qualifying round (including 2 players being sent off), AS Roma have all the incentive they need to go out and get a win away against Plzen. Of course, they’ll be up against Zdenek Zeman who is now in charge of Plzen (quite a coup for them) and his attacking style of football should ensure an open, entertaining game.

Odds for an away victory range from 2.05 down to 1.91 so it’s worth shopping around to make sure you get the best odds you can. This is one game I’ll be doing my best to tune into.

My third and final bet is in the match between Nice and Schalke. Now I’m going to avoid the Match Odds market as I think Schalke are a better side than they’ve been showing recently and despite Nice’s win at the weekend, they still have to convince me they’re going to be a real force in this competition. Mario Balotelli is, of course, a big discussion point. When he’s on point there are few forwards better than him around. When he’s having an off day, he’s basically not worth having non the pitch. Schalke have a few players of their own looking to establish themselves back in the game but they look like a solid enough side and could very well set out to frustrate Nice on French soil.

For that reason, I’m going for Under 2.5 goals in this game as I think it will be a tight match. Ladbrokes are offering 1.73 on the Under but better odds are available elsewhere if you have access to a broker or a clean account at one of the more “difficult” bookies.

There are plenty of other games that could be very interesting on Thursday night but those 3 are the ones that have caught my eye. Let us know on Twitter what you think.
