Flying start for BVB in the German top-flight league

FC Koln vs Dortmund

Friday, August 23, at RheinEnergieStadion (Cologne)

Dortmund kicked-off their domestic league in style destroying Augsburg 5-1 after being 1 goal down. Paco Alcacer scored a brace, Julian Brandt score at his debut closing the scoreboard, captain Marco Reus and wonderkid Jason Sancho also contributed to the brilliant home win. Once again Axel Witsel was Dortmund’s midfield brain, delivering some great assists for his attacking teammates and being one of the main stars of the 1st round. The newly promoted side, FC Koln, who won the Bundesliga 2 last season enter this match on the back of a 2-1 defeat on the road to Wolfsburg. Their main objective is to avoid relegation but unfortunately, they have a tough program in the 1st 5 rounds playing Dortmund, Gladbach, Bayern.

Team News:

Dortmund’s Paco Alcacer, Jadon Sancho and Axel Witsel earned their place in the team of the round after a superb performance in the 5-1 home win against Augsburg. On the other side half of FC Koln’s starting XI were top-flight league debutants Kingsley Ehizibue, Birger Verstraete, Ellyes Skhiri, Kingsley Schindler who costed €18m altogether and Dominick Drexler and Rafael Czichos. The hosts are also trying their best to recover their injured players, midfielders Christian Clemens and Louis Schaub who helped their side to promote in the top-flight league but are ruled out for this start of the season due to injuries. BVB’s goalkeeper Roman Bürki and defender Raphaël Guerreiro missed the 1st round due to muscle injurie and are not expected to come back to training with their squad in about 2 weeks. One of Dortmund’s key players, Axel Witsel believes his team are stronger this season. They lost Abdou Diallo and Maximilian Philipp, but they spent €127,5m signing Mats Hummels, Nico Schulz, Thorgan Hazard, Julian Brandt and Paco Alcacer, high-quality players that further strengthen Lucien Favre’s squad in what should be another title-challenging season

Betting Analysis

Despite playing away to FC Koln, Dortmund are huge favourites to win this match being priced at 1.44 with Bet365. The visitors are without a doubt one of, if not the strongest sides in the German Bundesliga and you can simply not oppose them against a newly promoted team without top players in their squad. Dortmund are scoring goals for fun once again this term, netting 9 goals in their previous 3 competitive matches across all competitions. We expect a quick goal in the match from Dortmund with FC Koln being forced to go all and give away many spaces in their defense. Dortmund have a brilliant attacking firepower they have creative players in the starting XI but also on the bench and they should be able to score at least 3 goals on their own.

Best tip for the match: Dortmund to win and over 2.5 goals at1.91 with Coral
