Napoli’s high-quality squad should prevail in the 1st round

Fiorentina vs Napoli

Saturday, August 24, at Stadio Artemio Franchi (Florence)

For a 2nd consecutive season, Napoli finished 2nd in the Serie A table, 11 points behind Juventus but 10 points above 3rd-placed Atalanta. On the other side, Fiorentina looked really bad last season avoiding relegation by just 3 points. They failed to win their last 14 games of the season losing 8 in the process whilst failing to find the back of the net in the last 5 clashes, so they were very lucky not to go down in Serie B. Their coach Vincenzo Montella who was appointed in April will have a tough task in rebuilding the team and bringing them back to top 6. We expect them to struggle also this season and we believe they will finish mid-table with no chance to compete for the European positions. They managed to keep Napoli to a goalless draw back in February, but we don’t expect them to repeat that result.

Team News

Napoli did well to keep their core of players, Arkadiusz Milik, Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens, Kalidou Koulibaly and Allan while signing some great players who will surely add extra quality the squad. Their most important transfer is centre-back Kostas Manolas from AS Roma, a world class defender with huge Serie A experience. More notable signings are goalkeeper Alex Meret from Udinese, central midfielder Eljif Elmas from Fenerbahce and right-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo from Empoli, all young and talented players who can help Napoli to finish 2nd in the standings. Why do we say 2nd? Because the 1st place is already taken, and they can definitely give Juventus the trophy from now. On the other side, Fiorentina’s only notable transfer is Erick Pulgar, a defensive midfielder from Bologna. Fiorentina still possesses a great attacking firepower with Federico Chiesa and Giovanni Simeone, 2 world class strikers who can deliver in every match if helped with great balls and assists from their teammates. After a brilliant season with PSV in Eredivisie and European competitions, the Mexican winger, Hirving Lozano became Napoli’s 2nd most expensive transfer after Gonzalo Higuain.

Betting Analysis

Arkadiusz Milik is not fully fit for this match so he will probably be benched, and Ancelotti is expected start with Dries Mertens in the attacking line. Kostas Manolas will bring extra-quality at the back and Napoli will have a rock-solid defense this season and many teams will struggle to score against them. Napoli are by far the better side, very organized, fully packed with great players and we expect them to kick-off their domestic campaign on the right foot with an away win against Fiorentina.

Best tip for the match: Napoli to win at 1.75 with Betfair
