Getafe aiming for a fourth straight win...

Getafe vs Basel

Thursday, October 24, at Coliseum Alfonso Perez

Getafe came within a whisker of earning Champions League qualification last season, but they ultimately finished two points behind Valencia. Their consolation prize was a place in the Europa League, and they have made the perfect start to their European adventure. They beat Trabzonspor 1-0 in their opener and then picked up a strong 2-1 win away at Russian side Krasnodar, despite having a man sent off. They are now top of the group table, while back-to-back league wins have carried them up to ninth in La Liga following a shaky start to the campaign. Basel are second in the group, after beating Krasnodar 5-0 and drawing 2-2 with Trabzonspor, and this should be an entertaining battle for supremacy.

Team News

Getafe coach Jose Bordelas decided to leave veteran striker Angel Rodriguez on the bench when they took on local rivals Leganes at the weekend. Jorge Molina and Jaime Mata started up front instead, but Getafe looked bereft of inspiration, so Rodriguez replaced Molina in the second half and duly banged in a brace to lead his team to a 2-0 victory. He has now scored seven goals in La Liga this season, at a rate of one every 68 minutes, and he will be pushing for a start in this game.

Basel won an eight consecutive Swiss league title in 2016/17, but they have had to be content with a runner-up spot in each of the last two seasons. Young Boys have now displaced them as the dominant force in Switzerland, and Basel appear to have regressed somewhat. They have some good players, but they are ravaged by injury right now, with Noah Okafor, Ramires, Kemal Ademi and Ricky van Wolfswinkel all missing.

Betting Analysis

These teams look pretty evenly matched on paper, but home advantage could swing it in Getafe’s favour. They have only lost once in their last 10 games, and that was against the mighty Barcelona. Getafe are compact and solid, and Rodriguez is in superb form. They are on a three-match winning streak and they will be full of confidence, so they should edge this game against an under-strength Basel side.

Tip: Getafe to win at 1.85 (17/20) with Unibet
