Time for Messi to lead Barca to glory...

Granada vs Barcelona

Saturday, September 22, at Los Carmenes

Barcelona’s season can begin in earnest now after star player Lionel Messi made his first appearance of the campaign on Tuesday. The diminutive Argentinean came off the bench in Barca’s 0-0 draw away at Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night and he looked reasonably sharp. Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez both started that game, and fans can finally look forward to the tantalising prospect of all three men playing together in La Liga for the first time.

Team News

Barca were hit with an early season injury crisis as Messi, Suarez and Ousmane Dembele were all ruled out. They soldiered on with new man Griezmann up front alongside youngster Carles Perez and utility man Rafinha. The club then loaned Rafinha out, and youngster Ansu Fati came into the team. He had a great game as Barcelona thrashed Valencia 5-2 at Camp Nou last weekend, a result that left them just three points off the top of the table. Ernesto Valverde now has plenty of options to choose from in attack, and no injury concerns at the back or midfield.

Newly promoted Granada are level on points with Barcelona after securing back-to-back victories over Espanyol and Celta Vigo. Roberto Soldado has been leading the line, but the goals have been spread all over the team so far. German Sanchez and new man Domingos Duarte have looked solid at the heart of the defence, but they will have their work cut out against a Barcelona team that have scored 12 goals in their last three league games.

Betting Analysis

Barcelona are the heavy favourites to win this game, and Granada’s strong recent form might deter some punters from betting on an away win at the prices being offered. However, it is worth pointing out that Sevilla have already won at Los Carmenes this season, and Barca will expect to follow suit. Celta Vigo had two men sent off when losing 2-0 to Granada last time out, and the newly promoted side are unlikely to get so lucky again. These teams last played one another in April 2017, when Barcelona visited Los Carmenes and secured a 4-1 victory. With Messi back in business, a similar result could be on the cards in this game.

Tip: Barcelona to win and over 2.5 goals at 1.85 (17/20) with Betway
