Inter face a stern test of their mettle on Friday...

Inter vs Roma

Friday, December 6, at San Siro

This is a huge game for Serie A leaders Inter. Lautaro Martinez’s brace handed them a fifth consecutive league victory at the weekend and they moved a point clear of title rivals Juventus. The Bianconeri must navigate a difficult trip to Rome to face Lazio this weekend, so Inter have a great chance of extending their lead at the top of the table if they can beat Roma. That will be easier said than done, as Paulo Fonseca’s men have won four of their last five Serie A games and they are fourth in the table. However, Roma have slipped up a couple of times on their travels in recent weeks and Inter have the quality to grind out a narrow victory in this game.

Team News

Inter strikers Martinez and Romelu Lukaku have combined for 18 goals already this season. In total, Antonio Conte’s men have scored 31 times in 14 games and they always look dangerous on the break. They play with a 3-5-2 formation, packing out the midfield, while Stefan de Vrij leads a strong back three. Key midfielders Stefano Sensi and Nicolas Barella are injured, leaving Roberto Gagliardini and Borja Valero to vie for a place alongside Marcelo Brozovic and Matias Vecino in the midfield. Alexis Sanchez is a long-term absentee.

Justin Kluivert opened the scoring for Roma in their 3-1 win away at Verona on Sunday, but the Dutch forward then had to go off injured, so he is likely to miss this match. Edin Dzeko should keep his place up front ahead of Giampaolo Pazzini, with Cengiz Under on the right and the talented Lorenzo Pellegrini playing in the number 10 role. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is on loan from Arsenal, could fill in for Kluivert. Another Premier League loanee, Man Utd’s Chris Smalling, could have his work cut out in trying to contain former teammate Lukaku.

Betting Analysis

This will certainly be a stern challenge for Inter. They have won 12 of their 14 games so far this season and they sit top of the table, but Roma are one of the best teams in Italy. Fonseca’s men have only lost once on the road all season in Serie A. However, that came on November 10, when they played away at Parma. It came three days after they lost away at Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League, so they are occasionally vulnerable on the road. It should be a tight game, but Inter are bang in form and you would expect them to close out a dogged victory on Friday.

Tip: Inter to win at 1.91 (10/11) with Betway
