Valencia and Getafe are set for an intriguing battle to seize fourth place on the final weekend of the 2018/19 La Liga season.

Getafe v Villarreal

Date: Saturday, April 15, at 3.15pm

Venue: Colisium Alfonso Perez

Fate conspired against Getafe as they suffered an agonising 2-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona last time out. Ernesto Valverde’s men wrapped up the league title a couple of weeks ago and they have no need to pick up any more points. They were expected to rest their entire first team for this game in order to rest their stars for the Champions League final, and that would have given Getafe a great opportunity to secure a vital win. Yet Barca suffered a shock 4-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield, crashed out of the Champions League 4-3 on aggregate and suddenly had no need to rest players. Instead they wanted a win to help banish the pain of that defeat to Liverpool and they beat Getafe 2-0. Meanwhile, Valencia beat Alaves 3-1 to climb above them on goal difference. It means Getafe are now fifth and they face a monumental scrap to finish fourth and secure Champions league football next season. Valencia’s goal difference is just one superior to that of Getafe, so Pepe Bordalás’ side will be highly motivated to gain a heavy victory here and seize that lucrative fourth spot.

Tip: Getafe -1 Asian handicap at 6/5 (2.20) with Unibet

Valladolid v Valencia

Date: Saturday, April 15, at 6.05pm

Venue: Jose Zorrilla

Valencia finished fourth last season, but they looked destined for mid-table obscurity this time around after drawing far too many games in the first half of the campaign. Yet they have won eight of their last 12 games and that has catapulted them right back into the upper echelons of La Liga. That victory over Alaves last time out gave them a great chance of nailing down fourth place once more. If they beat Valladolid handsomely on Saturday, they will be in next season’s Champions League, barring a miracle at Colisium Alfonso Perez. Valladolid are in a very similar situation to that of Villarreal: they are languishing in the bottom half of the table, but they are in no danger of relegation. They are unlikely to put too much effort into this game, and Valencia are the clear favourites to win it.

Tip: Valencia to win and under 4.5 goals at 5/6 (1.83) with Coral

Real Madrid v Real Betis

Date: Sunday, April 16, at 11am

Venue: Bernebeu

Zinedine Zidane’s homecoming has been pretty miserable and Real Madrid have just one win in their last four games. That leaves them a full 28 points behind Barcelona, which is an embarrassing situation for such a successful club. They are due a massive clear out in the summer and this is the final chance for each player to prove to the Frenchman that he deserves to remain in the Spanish capital. They should be able to beat Real Betis, who are 10th in the table and have lost 10 out of 18 away games so far this season.

Tip: Real Madrid half-time / full-time at 8/5 (2.60) with Ladbrokes

Eibar v Barcelona

Date: Sunday, April 16, at 3.15pm

Venue: Municipal de Ipurua

The final game of the 2018/19 campaign sees the champions take on an exciting Eibar side at Municipal de Ipurua. Eibar have lost three of their last five games, but they always go down swinging as they love to attack. Yet ambition and endeavour alone might not be enough to earn them a result against Barca, who have struggled in Europe but remain peerless domestically. This will be Lionel Messi’s last competitive game for several weeks and he will be keen to sign off the season with a win.

Tip: Barcelona to win at 19/20 (1.95) with Betway
