Several in-form teams are in action when Ligue 1 resumes at the weekend and a St Etienne victory could make a good selection.

Lille v Nimes

Date: Sunday, April 28, at 2pm

Venue: Stade Pierre-Mauroy

Lille picked up a 3-2 win away at newly promoted Nimes earlier in the season and they should be able to take another three points on Saturday. They thrashed champions PSG 5-1 in their last home game and they have won 10 out of 16 matches at Stade Pierre-Mauroy this season. They have banged in 31 goals in that time and conceded just 11, with star forward Nicolas Pepe particularly impressive. Nimes are enjoying a magnificent first season in Ligue 1 and Bernard Blaquart deserves a great deal of credit for their recent run of results. A 2-1 victory over Bordeaux last time out carried them up to ninth in the table, which is commendable for a club with their resources. However, they have lost their last four away games and that does not augur well for a visit to Lille, who still need a few more points to secure second place in the table.

Tip: Lille to win and over 1.5 goals in the game at 5/6 (1.83) with Ladbrokes

Amiens v Strasbourg

Date: Sunday, April 28, at 2pm

Venue: Stade de la Lincorne

Strasbourg are among the most entertaining teams in Ligue 1 this season thanks to their reckless approach to games. Both teams have scored in 70% of their games, which is by far and away the highest proportion in the division. They throw men forward in a bid to score and leave gaps at the back for their opponents to exploit, and it often makes for terrific viewing. Last time out they lost 3-1 at home to Montpellier, and before that they drew 3-3 with bottom-of-the-table Guingamp. That was preceded by a 2-2 draw with the mighty PSG, a thumping 4-0 victory over Reims and a 2-2 draw with Nimes. Amiens are conservative by comparison, and both teams to score has paid off in just 42% of their games. But they are scrapping desperately to avoid relegation and you would expect them to give this one their all against a leaky Strasbourg defence.

Tip: Both teams to score at 19/20 (1.95) with Ladbrokes

St Etienne v Toulouse

Date: Sunday, April 28, at 4pm

Venue: Geoffroy-Guichard

St Etienne remain the form team in the French top flight after winning four of their last five matches. They beat Reims 2-0 on the road last weekend held onto fourth place in the table. Former Newcastle midfielder Remy Cabella is in fine form and they look set for a return to European football. At home, St Etienne have been very strong, with 11 wins from 16 games over the course of the season, and they should be able to win this won. Toulouse’s recent form has been unremarkable. They held high flying Lille to a 0-0 draw at home last time out, but their last away trip saw them lose 2-1 to Montpellier. They have lost half their away games this season and they could be in for another here.

Tip: St Etienne to win and under 4.5 goals in the game at 10/11 (1.91) with Ladbrokes

Marseille v Nantes

Date: Sunday, April 28, at 8pm

Venue: Stade Velodrome

Both of these teams are in fine form and we should therefore be in for a cracking game on Sunday night. Marseille returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Nimes on April 13 and followed it up with a 3-1 win at Guingamp last time out. Nantes have won three on the bounce, vanquishing Lyon, PSG and Amiens in an extraordinary run of form. Nantes have climbed all the way up to the giddy heights of 13th in the table after their recent winning streak, while Marseille remain fifth due to St Etienne’s successes. We should be in for an entertaining game here, as both teams have been excellent in front of goal in recent weeks. It finished 3-2 to Nantes when they met earlier in the season, and 1-1 in Marseille on their last meeting at Stade Velodrome.

Tip: Both teams to score at 11/10 (2.10) with Unibet
