Salah should return for this game...

Liverpool vs Napoli

Wednesday, November 27, at Anfield

Liverpool will be in the mood for revenge when they host Napoli at Anfield on Wednesday evening. They suffered a bruising 2-0 defeat when these teams met in Naples on September 17, and that remains their only loss of the season. In the Premier League they have taken 37 points from a possible 39, and they are top of their Champions League group after winning their last three matches. Last season they ended up in the same group as Napoli and lost to the Italian side on the road, but beat them at Anfield. They then went on to be crowned champions of Europe, so they should write off that defeat in September as a mere blip.

Team News

Star man Mohamed Salah missed Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Crystal Palace at the weekend, but he should return for this game. He forms a devastating attacking triumvirate along with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané, who both scored against the Eagles. Jurgen Klopp was able to name his first choice midfield in that match, with Fabinho sitting deeper and allowing Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson to push up. Joel Matip remains injured, and Dejan Lovren has been given the nod ahead of Joe Gomez to partner Virgil Van Dijk in defence.

Napoli are engulfed in a full-blown crisis right now. Chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis plans to dock players’ wages by 25% after they refused to go on a training retreat following their 2-2 draw with Salzburg. His son Edo, the vice chairman, accused them of lacking “balls”. There is a furious stand-off between the owners and the players, and star players like Kalidou Koulibaly, Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon, Allan and Lorenzo Insigne are all set to be offloaded next summer. That does not represent good preparation for a trip to Liverpool.

Betting Analysis

Napoli’s results have been poor ever since the row broke out and they are down to seventh in the Serie A table. They have drawn five and lost one of their last six games. They remain difficult to beat, with two wins and two draws in four Champions League matches thus far, but Anfield is a very tricky place to visit. Liverpool are oozing confidence right now and they should be able to get the job done in this match.

Betting Tips: Liverpool -1 Asian handicap at 1.84 (5/6) with Unibet; Liverpool and under 4.5 goals at 2.00 (evens) with Coral
