Manchester City vs. Brighton

Wednesday, January 13th, 2021 – 6pm GMT at Etihad Stadium

Man City 1.14

Draw 8.50

Brighton 16.00

Recent Form

Manchester City’s season is back on track after a succession of good results in which they have now won 6 games in a row, scoring 15 goals with 4 clean sheets in the process. They were very impressive in their wins over title rivals Chelsea and in their 2-0 victory in the Manchester derby in the Fa Cup.

They have scored inside the opening twenty minutes in 5 of those 6 wins and in 3 of the 6 they have managed to score twice inside the opening half an hour. Pep Guardiola has his men back on track and scoring goals even without a recognised striker in the team right now due to injuries. Man City are now up to 4th place in the English Premier League and only 4 points adrift from league leaders Liverpool with two games in hand.

Brighton have been one of the most exciting teams to watch this season, they play an attacking style of football that’s very attractive to watch. Unfortunately for the seagulls their conversion rate in front of goals this season has been one of the worst in the league. They are one of only 6 teams to have more than 300 shots on goals, yet their conversion rate ranks amongst the worst out of all six of those teams with a 6.9% conversion rate.

In essence they have taken the sixth most shots in the league and have the sixth lowest conversion rate in the league. Brighton have only won 1 of their previous 17 games in all competitions, two including their penalty shootout against Newport County at the weekend.

Injuries

Both teams come into this game with a lot of key players missing from their squads due to injury and other various reasons. Most Notably for Man City is Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia with Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres questionable for the game. Brighton are missing Yves Bissouma, Aaron Connolly, Tariq Lamptey with Danny Welbeck, and Adam Lallana questionable for the game.

Head to Head

Since 2017 Man City and Brighton have played each other a total of 7 times with the “Sky Blues” winning all 7 games by an aggregate score 21-3. These are incredible numbers, meaning Man City have score an average of 3 goals a game to Brighton’s 0.42 per game. The previous 3 head to heads have not been favourable for Brighton, seeing the score lines read 5-0, 4-0 and 4-1. Raheem Sterling will look to do damage against after his Hat Trick against them last time out. Interestingly its only 11.00 for Sterling to repeat this feat and score another hat trick. Very low odds and certainly no value but with so many injuries and Sergio Aguero missing it’s a play that has a chance of cashing. 2 or more goals for Sterling might have a more realistic chance at odds of 5.0 with Betfair. Man City have been the first to score and win the first half in 6 of the 7 previous head to heads.

Conclusion

Brighton had a very hard fought victory on Sunday over Newport in a game that went to penalties whilst Man City had the total opposite on Saturday as they had a comfortable 3-0 win over Birmingham. If this were a 50/50 game, we would already be siding with the home team as they had an easier game plus an extra days rest, but this isn’t a 50/50 game, and we can’t look past Man City taking the win in this Premier League fixture, the added rest and easier games just makes out decision easier, but were can we find the value?

We believe Man City will get all three points here, there should be over 2.5 goals as Man City have been back on track lately and recent head to head games have seen a ton of goals scored by Man City. Take over 1.5 cards in the game also as Brighton will most likely have to commit a lot of fouls to stop City from scoring. Combine all 3 with the bookmaker Bet365 for odds of 2.0 in a bet builder.

For those who haven’t the available option of a bet builder, we do like Man City over 2.5 team goals at odds of 1.80 with Betway.

Premier League Midweek Banker: Manchester City Win, Over 2.5 Match Goals and Over 1.5 Match Cards at 2.0 with Bet365 (visit our Bet365 Review)
