Real Madrid should destroy Valladolid...

Real Madrid vs Valladolid

Saturday, August 24, at Santiago Bernebeu

The Galacticos of Real Madrid host lowly Valladolid in what should be a uneven contest at the Bernebeu on Saturday. Zinedine Zidane’s men picked up an important 3-1 win away at Celta Vigo last weekend and they now sit top of the table. Real suffered a tumultuous season last term, but they still took six points off Valladolid, beating them 2-0 at home and 4-1 away. The Pucelanos battled bravely against relegation in 2018/19 and finished 16th, four points above the drop zone. They spent less than €1 million on improving the squad in the summer, and they look set for another relegation scrap this time around.

Team News

The biggest surprise for Real Madrid fans last weekend was the inclusion of Gareth Bale in the starting 11. Zidane spent the summer trying to sell him, before the club performed a U-turn and cancelled a proposed move to China. New man Eden Hazard is injured, so Bale went into a front three alongside Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior, with Luka Jovic on the bench. Zidane ditched the three-at-the-back set-up he experimented with in pre-season and reverted to the 4-3-3 that has served him so well. Real boast an outrageously talented midfield, with Casemiro sitting behind the talented Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, while Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane should keep things tight at the back.

Valladolid beat Real Betis 2-1 on the road in their opener, which should fill them with confidence. However, Betis had a man sent off in the eighth minute, and they will rarely be so fortunate against a bigger club. Sergio Guardiola, released by Barcelona in 2015 after they found old social media posts in which he was rude about them, leads the line for Valladolid and he scored against Betis. Ruben Alcaraz is probably their best player and they have a decent spine, but they lack quality and they will need a miracle to beat Real Madrid at the Bernebeu.

Betting Analysis

Real Madrid are heavy favourites to win this game and it is hard to see Valladolid containing them for 90 minutes. However, the best price you can find on a home win is just 1.22 (2/9) with Ladbrokes, so you need to dig a bit deeper to find value. Real Madrid do not keep many clean sheets, so win to nil looks a little risky, and an Asian handicap or half-time / full-time might appeal more. Bale also looks tempting at 1.96 (20/21) with Bet365 to score at any time, as the Welsh wing wizard has a point to prove.

Tip: Real Madrid half-time / full-time at 1/75 (3/4) with Coral
