Atletico aim to maintain their 100% start to the season...

They will aim to maintain that 100% record when they travel to the Basque region on Saturday to take on Real Sociedad. Imanol Alguacil’s men began the season with a strong 1-1 draw away at Valencia, before beating Mallorca 1-0 on the road courtesy of Martin Odegaard’s late strike. Yet they lost 2-0 to local rivals Atletico Madrid last time out and that may have dented their confidence somewhat.

Team News

Real Sociedad are a technically proficient team and they enjoy a lot of possession in most of their games. A three-man midfield of Asier Illarramendi, Mikel Merino and Real Madrid loanee Odegaard sits behind an attacking trio of Mikel Oyarzabal, Adnan Januzaj and Willian Jose, and Sociedad are always dangerous. Yet they will be up against arguably the world’s meanest defence, so they may struggle to fashion too many chances on Saturday.

Atletico welcomed Brazilian right-back Renan Lodi back from suspension for their last game, and manager Diego Simeone reverted to a back four. Stefan Savic dropped out of the team, allowing Mario Hermoso to partner Jose Gimenez at the heart of defence. Diego Costa is now back from injury and he has gone straight into the team in place of the injured Alvaro Morata. Simeone may be tempted to recall Thomas Partey to the starting 11 to negate the threat posed by Sociedad’s midfield, while Thomas Lemar and Joao Felix should flank Costa up front.

Betting Analysis

Atletico beat Sociedad 2-0 home and away last season and they should head into this game full of confidence. Felix has made a superb start to his Atletico career and Costa will be a real handful for a bang average Sociedad defence. It makes the odds of 2.20 (6/5) that are available on an away win for Atletico Madrid look really attractive. They are a lot stronger at home than on their travels, but they picked up a 1-0 win away at Leganes a couple of weeks ago and they could pull off a similar feat here. Atletico draw no bet is 1/2 (1.50) with Ladbrokes if you are feeling more cautious.

Tip: Atletico Madrid to win at 2.20 (6/5) with Betfair
