Barca have a great record at Anoeta...

Ernesto Valverde’s men have won four games on the bounce, and they thrashed Mallorca 5-2 at the weekend. They were able to leave their key players at home for a midweek trip to Milan, as they had already sewn up qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League with a game to spare. That should allow Lionel Messi and co to focus relentlessly on plotting a victory over a tricky Real Sociedad side in Saturday’s big game.

Team News

Mikel Oyarzabal continues to win plaudits for his eye-catching displays in a Real Sociedad shirt this season. Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard has also been displaying the sort of form that once had him billed as the next big thing in world football. Willian Jose and Portu are dangerous forwards, and Mikel Merino is also good on the ball, so Sociedad are a dangerous team. Yet captain and holding midfielder Asier Illarramendi is injured and that could dent their chances of getting a result in this game.

Veteran midfielder Ivan Rakitic has now started three consecutive games for Barca and he has played down speculation linking him with a move away from the club. Arthur is injured and Sergi Roberto has seemingly fallen out of favour, so Rakitic should keep his place alongside Sergio Busquets and the exciting Frenkie de Jong in midfield, and that trio will not fear Odegaard and co. The most dangerous triumvirate is Barcelona’s attacking three: Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann have now played plenty of games together and they are in devastating form. Ousmane Dembele is out, but he has not been missed too badly. Clement Lenglet plays alongside Gerard Pique in defence, with Samuel Umtiti unable to break into the team. Left-back Jordi Alba is injured.

Betting Analysis

This should prove to be a stern test of Barcelona’s title credentials. They lost on their last trip to the Basque region, when Athletic Bilbao beat them on the opening day of the season, but they have a terrific record against Real Sociedad. Barca have won the last seven meetings between these clubs, and three of them came at Anoeta. Sociedad have already lost twice at home this season, and Barcelona are surging with momentum right now. Having a rest in midweek should help their preparations, and a Barca win looks likely in this game.

Tip: Barcelona to win at 1.75 (3/4) with 888 Sport
