Bayern expected to bounce back after struggling in the 1st round

Schalke vs Bayern Munich

Saturday, August 24, Veltins Arena

Schalke’s discipline managed to keep Gladbach to a goalless draw last weekend, but we must admit they were very lucky not to concede in the 2nd half and lose the match. It looks like Schalke’s last season struggles are not over. It was a tough game for Schalke, they struggled to put pressure on their opponents recording just 1 shot on target and giving away the possession. On the other side, Bayern Munich were stunned by Hertha at home failing to win the match and conceding 2 goals in the process. Despite dominating the match and having 71% possession, the Bavarian giants failed to convert their numerous goalscoring chances.

Team News:

Bayern’s new transfers Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Perisic and Lucas Hernandez should bring plenty of quality on the pitch. Coutinho is not expected to play this weekend but Perisic and Hernandez, if fully fit, are ready to help their new team bounce back and return to winning ways. Javi Martinez is still injured and he will probably need more weeks to recover. On the other side, Schalke are still missing some key players, midfielder Nabil Bentaleb with a long-term injury and Pablo Insua who’s back from La Liga after his loan ended. Schalke have a new coach whom their appointed in the summer. David Wagner, former member of Jürgen Klopp's coaching staff at Borussia Dortmund, who promoted in the Premier League with Huddersfield, a team with one of the smallest budgets in the English EFL league. He is expected to bring back the glory and earn a European spot at the end of the season, but it will be very tough for him to achieve that so fast.

Betting Analysis:

Bayern are huge favourites to win this game being priced at 1.37 with Bet365. We expect them to totally dominate the match and return home with the 3 points. Schalke will probably have a defensive approach and try to strike on the break but given their lack of attacking firepower it will be very tough for them to contribute on the scoreboard. Lewandowski kicked-off his domestic season with a brace and he is once again huge favourite to finish 1st in the top-scorer standings. He is priced at 1.7 with WilliamHill to be anytime goalscorer and we believe that’s a great bet so we will take it, but our top tip combines the goals-market and the winners-market for more value.

Best tip for the match: Bayern to win and over 2.5 goals at 1.83 with PaddyPower
