Saints to continue unbeaten run in South Coast Derby.

Southampton vs Bournemouth

Friday 20th September at St Mary’s

Southampton Team Preview

Southampton comes into this South Coast Derby unbeaten in their last four matches and keeping three clean sheets. Ralph Hasenhuttl seems to have integrated a very healthy balance between defence and attack.

Oriol Romeu sits in front of the backline and just moves the ball easily once breaking up an opponents attack. Moussa Djenepo’s has had an injury setback, but his goal last week in the 1-0 away win at Sheffield Utd has the Saints fans thinking they may have another Sadio Mane on their hands.

Summer signing Che Adams and strike partner Danny Ings have not started scoring yet which means everything achieved so far is a bonus. Defending as a team and attacking with pace and individual brilliance gives the home set of fans hope that there will be no relegation talk this season. Southampton welcome back Kevin Danso after serving his one-match ban following two yellow cards against Man Utd earlier this month.

Key Strengths: Good Defensive unit with Pace on the break

Key Weakness: Switching off mentally on diagonal balls

Bournemouth

The Cherries are one of the Premier Leagues entertaining sides. Eddie Howe has installed a positive attacking style that has not always brought the right results. Very rarely are Bournemouth involved in a game that doesn’t produce goals.

Callum Wilson is a major threat to any defence with his pace and eye for a chance. Over the past three seasons this squad has been bolstered by big-money signings of youth and energy. Defensively they get caught isolated because of an eagerness to contribute in attacking situations. A leadership voice to organize during tough periods of a match is still needed.

Bournemouth have very comfortable players on the ball and if allowed to play and dictate will cause problems to most. Young Harry Wilson is on loan from Liverpool and a full season of Premier League football will benefit him massively.

Key Stengths: Callum Wilson and a youthful enthusiasm

Key Weakness: Involved in to many end to end games

Betting Analysis:

Southampton hold the edge for me because of the steel and patience in midfield. The home side are bigger and stronger in most departments. Home advantage in this South Coast clash should be pivotal. Bournemouth attack the same home and away, it’s the lack of controlling away games that does not bring them the results some of their performances deserve.

Goals will be expected from both sides, Callum Wilson brings the visitor’s main threat. The home side are dangerous from dead ball situations and early balls into the box. I see Southampton winning an entertaining Friday night game because of their ability to control and adapt to the games flows.

Tips: Southampton to win @2.05, Both team to score and ov 2.5 goals @2
