Atletico have a great record against Valladolid...

Valladolid vs Atletico Madrid

Sunday, October 6, at Jose Zorilla

Atletico Madrid will bid for a ninth consecutive victory over Valladolid when they travel to Jose Zorilla on Sunday. This is one of the most one-sided rivalries in European football, as Atletico have not lost to Valladolid since 2008. Diego Simeone’s men picked up a 3-2 victory here last season and then won 1-0 when the teams met in Madrid. They should therefore head to Jose Zorilla full of confidence at the weekend, despite having to shake off a bit of fatigue after travelling to Russia to play Lokomotiv Moscow on Tuesday.

Team News

Valladolid climbed up to 10th in the table with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Espanyol at the weekend. Michel scored from the penalty spot and Valladolid defended admirably before Oscar Plano wrapped up victory with a stoppage time strike. Plano has now scored three goals this season, while Sergi Guardiola has also looked dangerous. Valladolid have been surprisingly strong on the road, while they have drawn both league games so far this season. This is by no means a rich club, and they only spent €1 million in the summer transfer window, but they have a few decent loanees, although they have been rocked by a recent injury to star player Ruben Alcaraz. He will be out for four weeks, leaving Valladolid light in midfield.

Atletico Madrid have paired wunderkind Joao Felix with the wily old Diego Costa up front in recent weeks, while Alvaro Morata has been out with injuries and suspension. Koke and Saul Niguez are fixtures in the Atletico midfield, and Simeone often plays Thomas Partey in the holding role. Vitolo and Thomas Lemar are battling for a place in the starting 11. Stefan Savic appears to be the preferred partner for Jose Gimenez in defence right now, while Kieran Trippier and Renan Lodi are established as first choice full-backs. Atletico did travel to Russia on Tuesday, but they have great strength in depth and Simeone can shuffle his pack if he so desires, with the likes of Hector Herrera and Marcos Llorente pushing for a place in the side.

Betting Analysis

Atletico Madrid have won two out of three away games so far this season and they are third in the table after holding league leaders Real Madrid to a 0-0 draw last time out. This will not be an easy game, as Valladolid is a tough place to visit, but Atletico boast an impeccable record there. You can get very tempting odds on a straight win for Simeone’s men, but you could consider a small handicap for more value, or try Atletico and under 4.5 goals at 1.95 (19/20) with Betway.

Tip: Atletico Madrid to win at 1.78 (31/40) with Betway
