Chesterfield and Wrexham to impress in National League

It promises to be another thrilling season in the National League with a host of clubs believing they have the quality required to take that leap into the Football League.

Notts County are yet to add to their numbers this summer, but with their settled squad will be well fancied to set the pace.

One point of note for Notts County backers is that favourites for the National League title have not had a good record in previous years.

Last season’s losing Promotion Finalists AFC Fylde will be keen to go one step better this time around and are joint second favourites for promotion, alongside Chesterfield. Both have been very active in the transfer market, with incomings and a few outgoings.

It’s going to be a great season and we’ve got some top tips to make some profit.

Vanarama National League 2019/2020

August 3rd 2019 – April 25th 2020

Outright Winner and Tips

Chesterfield can follow the same route as Leyton Orient by appointing a manager who has coached at a higher level and has the ambition to get a team out the National League and back to the English Football League.

John Sheridan took over half way through the season with Chesterfield struggling. Since his appointment, the team improved massively and ended the season strongly. Maintaining the squad and investing wisely is a key reason why Chesterfield will take some beating this season.

Wrexham have been in the National League for 12 years now and are desperate for a return to the Football League. Having invested in fire power this off season with reinforcements in strikers, Wrexham will be gunning to go one better than last season where they lost out in the elimination play-offs.

Wrexham are best equipped to gain promotion this season having learned from previous mistakes and with Bryan Hughes at the helm, they have a manager who can deliver success.

Look out for JJ Hooper and Leighton McIntosh to be amongst the top scorers in the league as Wrexham make a serious challenge for promotion and it’s our feeling this will be the year for them

Top Tip:

Chesterfield FC to win Vanarama National League 10.0 (9/1) with Ladbrokes

Wrexham to get promoted 6.0 (5/1) with SkyBet

Vanarama National League – Week 1 Matchday – Sat 3 Aug 2019

The National League kicks off this coming Saturday, with 24 clubs competing for the coveted prize of a place in the Football League.

The early kick-off, televised on BT Sport, sees Stockport County host Maidenhead United. It’s been nine years since Stockport were last in the Football League but they moved a step closer to a return with their promotion to the National League last season and they can get off to the best possible start here, with a home win at 1.8 (4/5) with William Hill

Last season’s title race went down to the final week of the season, with Solihull Moors ultimately losing out to Leyton Orient. Solihull will be hoping to go one better this time around and they begin their campaign with a trip to Harrogate Town. This looks a difficult one to call though and many will see the draw as good value at 3.4 (12/5) with BetVictor

Much fancied Chesterfield welcome Dover Athletic to the Proact Stadium and though odds on at 1.8 (4/5) with William Hill, they will be well backed this weekend. Meanwhile, Notts County, favourites for the title this season, travel to Eastleigh in what has the makings of an entertaining clash. Backing over 2.5 goals could be the go to bet at 2.1 (11/10) with Betfair.

Last season’s losing Promotion Finalists AFC Fylde begin away at Aldershot Town. Manager Dave Challinor has invested in the summer to support main striker Danny Rowe and the addition of Halifax’s Matty Kosylo looks to be a very shrewd one. The Coasters can begin this campaign with a victory on the road at 2.2 (6/5) with Bet365.

National League – Matchday 1 Tips

1.8 (4/5) Stockport Country to beat Maidenhead with William Hill

1.8 (4/5) Chesterfield to beat Dover Athletic with William Hill

2.2 (6/5) AFC Fylde to win away at Aldershot Town with Bet365

Extra Tips:

3.4 (12/5) Solihull Moors to draw with Harrogate Town with Betfair

2.1 (11/10) Over 2.5 goals in Eastleigh v Notts County with Betfair
