Can Enable extend her sensational winning streak?

Champion mare Enable will bid to extend her impressive winning streak to 11 races at the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes on July 27. The finest middle-distance runners from across Britain, Ireland and further afield will gather at Ascot to battle it out for glory in the Group 1 race. It carries a prize purse of £1.2 million and the prestige that comes with winning it is immense, so it always sees a strong field. This year’s renewal looks particularly competitive and Enable will need to be at her very best if she is to clinch another famous victory.

John Gosden’s star mare burst onto the scene in 2017 when she won the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, along with the Epsom Oaks and the Irish Oaks. She wrapped up her three-year-old campaign with a stunning victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. She won that famous race again last year and also went to America to land the Breeders’ Cup Classic. She did not return to Ascot to defend the King George, but she will be back this month for another crack at the famous race.

Enable Dubbed "Queen of Racing"

Enable made her seasonal reappearance at Sandown earlier this month and put in a magnificent performance to win the Eclipse. Jockey Frankie Dettori, who has been so successful of late that Ladbrokes and Coral have often barred punters from taking a price when placing multiples on his rides, branded her the “queen of racing” and declared her to be his favourite horse. Gosden warned that she was only running at 85% of her capacity, so she should be even more formidable at the King George.

She will need to be. Her chief rival, Crystal Ocean, also put in a sensational performance when winning the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot last month. That earned him a Longines rating of 127, catapulting him right up to the very summit of the world rankings. Enable’s rating is just 123 and, while she will enjoy a 3lb sex allowance, she will need to improve in order to beat Crystal Ocean, who is priced at 3/1 with Ladbrokes. Enable is the 4/6 favourite at Ladbrokes and a few others, with Epsom Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck priced at 7/1. It looks set to be a ferocious battle, but Enable has risen to every challenge she has faced over the past few years and she really should be able to romp to another famous victory in this race.
